The World's Highest Cricket Ground @ Chail

When seen from a purely tourist perspective, Chail doesn't have too much to do. However there are several hidden treasures that are worth exploring. One of them is the World's highest cricket ground. I have a suspicion that the place would have been quite dull if the weather wasn't so magical.

The board indicating that this is indeed the world's highest cricket ground at 7500 feet from the sea level. The cricket ground is used by the Chail Military School. The ground was built in 1893 and is still frequently used and well-maintained. My family on the stairs leading to the Cricket Ground. Clouds had started gathering by now and the ground was barely visible. The cloud-curtain lifted for a second to allow us a view of the ground. We were surprised to see a basketball court as well. It is surprising then that this isn't the world's highest basketball court as well. A quick search on the Internet didn't reveal which basketball court gets the honour. And it is also worth mentioning here that this ground is also used to play polo during the vacations. A beautiful bald tree with a tree-house. You need to walk around the cricket stadium a bit to reach this point. The cricket ground was on higher grounds when compared to the road we were walking on. I wish I had been able to click a better angle though. The inactive scoreboard. Honestly, when I was told about this cricket ground, I was expecting a stadium and not really just a ground. But anyways, the visit was worth the time so no complaints. The expanse of the playground surrounded by tall deodars. The light clouds drifting through these giants make the entire environment quite haunting. Playing cricket here would be so much fun. I wonder how many balls were hit too hard and lost to the game forever in the dense foliage surrounding the ground.
