Camping at Dhomri(Narkanda, Shimla, HP) on a stormy day !!!

During one of the recent adventure trip in Himalayan ranges of Himachal Pradesh (India), we planned to stay at Dhomri during one of the days. Domri is a small ground near Narkanda which is surrounded by high cedar trees. Dhomri is one of the popular places for Skiing. It was a stormy day and some of us were really worried on reaching Narkanda. Although most of trekkers were excited, but I was even thinking of searching a hotel or guest-house rather staying in tents. The building above you see is HPPWD guest-house in the middle of Narkanda Market. All the surrounding hills seemed very small as compared to huge cloud in the sky. All the houses in Narkanda were like tiny objects as compared to this huge cloud moving very fast in dark sky... For some time, we preferred to remain inside the car rather moving towards the camp in Dhomri...After a while, one set of clouds went away and weather was decent to move ahead towards Dhomri. Before that we planned to have some snacks and tea at Narkanda only :)A photograph clicked from Tea shop... showing a temple in middle of Narkanda Market, Shimla, Himachal Pradesh. Here is another photograph of Narkanda Market. Narkanda is located at 2620 metres (8600 ft). Hatu Peak which is at 11000 ft is 5 km from Narkanda.Narkanda is one of the main market for apple growers in this region. There is another place called Kotgarh, which is 16 km from Narkanda and famous for apple orchards. Satyanand Stokes brought the apple to this place and helped strengthen the economy of this region of Himachal Pradesh. Today Rs 3000 Crore direct and indirect income is generated through apple production. Presently apple growers are shifting to bring their farm under cherry cultivation to fetch fast money in their pocket as holdings are marginalized due to population factorA lady standing outside the bus-stop and looking for next bus towards Shimla. Lot of folks from Nepal are working in Apple Orchards of Narkanda region. During Apple season, these folks are in big demand and at times fights can be seen at Shimla Bus-stand where various orchard owners show their right on a particular set of group who just reached Shimla from Nepal :After having some tea at Narkanda Market and some clicks of market, we thought of moving towards Dhomri, the camping site.Everything was set on Dhomri ground. Tents were installed and our tent had light as well :) ... Bonfire with som snacks and beer... but no music or dance. Most of the folks were inside tents, as weather was not clear yet..Probably an early morning shot (out of sequence photograph, just added to give an idea about camping site) ... This exactly is skiing ground, which I was talking about... It's a popular place to train skiing enthusiasts from various parts of India.. One Skiing training is planned Jan'2012...There are various hotels and guest-houses available in Narkanda market. Since this place is also popular among bollywood directors, there are some luxury resorts are also available around apple orchards. Some of the orchards owners have started converting their orchards into resorts and they keep most of the plants in that region. In fact, such places are more popular..A photograph on houses on the way from Narkanda Market to Dhomri... Soon we shall me sharing snow covered photographs from Dhomri and Narkanda... So keep watching the place for the same...Clouds started moving out of our camping site and sky was completely clear in morning...

If you like camping so much you should consider buying a hammock tent. You don't need to remove rocks or sticks because you'll be hanging up in the air between two trees! :-D
