Mobile-Giri from a bus near Govind-Sagar Lake @ Lathiani, Una, Himachal Pradesh !!! : Posted by VJ SHARMA on www.travellingcamera.com : The reservoir on the river Sutlej which was formed after the hydel dam at Bhakra was constructed and has been named in honour of Guru Gobind Singh, the 10th Sikh guru. Gobind Sagar Lake is spread over different parts of Bilaspur and Una districts of Himachal Pradesh...This time I was going to Ludhiana in a bus and thought of clicking some photographs of Gobin Sagar Lake with my new HTC Dezire HD. Gobin Sagar Lake comes on the way when we move towards Una/Chandigarh from Hamirpur... Also it comes on the way when we move to Chandigarh from Hamirpur/Mandi/Kullu/Manali via Bilaspur. So I always see this lake whenever I go my Home from Delhi :)Water level this time was very low... I have seen this lake many times in summers, but this time it was rarely visible due to very low water level. There is very clear view of Gobind Sagar Lake, when we cross a small town called Barsar. Aftr crossing Barsar, we climb up a hill and then a downhill starts till Lathiani. This is the stretch when lake is visible...In the months of October and November water level of the reservoir goes high and a series of regattas are also organised by the Tourism and Civil Aviation department... Water-skiing, sailing, kayaking and water scooter racing are popular water sports activities during this period.Major attractions of the lake include ferry rides and water sports like speedboating. Two years back, roads near this lake were very risky and narrow. This time I was really happy to see smooth and wide roads...Gobind Sagar was declared as a water fowl refuge in 1962. Fishing is commonly practiced here. It has about fifty one species and sub species. Labeo dero, Tor pitutrata, Mystus seenghala and Mirror carp are some of the common species found here.During summers some part of the lake is completely dry and look like Sholey's location where Gabbar used to stay with his gang !! Rocks and sand without any tree or grass !!! I rarely find time to plan one day trip to this place during summers. Hope to go their soon ! Many punjabi movies are shot near this lake...In Bilaspur, many temples can be seen at the ground level during summers. These temples belongs to the times of king of Bilaspur and after monsoons they get covered by water !!!
