Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Workshops by TravellingCamera: Beyond Editing, Learn to See Like a Photographer

Every memorable photograph begins long before the shutter clicks. It starts with observation. It begins with noticing how morning light quietly wraps around an old doorway, how rain transforms ordinary streets into reflections, or how an elderly shopkeeper's expression tells a story words cannot.

For years, people have asked me a similar question after seeing photographs on TravellingCamera.com: "Which camera do you use?" Ironically, that is often the least important part of the answer.

The real conversation starts with Adobe Photoshop Lightroom—not because it magically creates beautiful photographs, but because it helps photographers finish the story they witnessed in the field.

That realization eventually inspired Adobe Lightroom Workshops by VJ Sharma, a practical learning experience designed for photographers, travelers, creators, bloggers, and enthusiasts who want to understand photography from capture to completion. This isn't another software tutorial. It is about learning how photographers think. It is about understanding light before sliders.

This isn't another software tutorial.

It is about learning how photographers think.

It is about understanding light before sliders.

It is about editing with intention rather than presets.

Most importantly, it is about creating photographs that still feel authentic long after editing.

Why Join Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Workshops?

Thousands of Lightroom tutorials already exist online.

So why attend a workshop?

Because editing is rarely the real problem.

Most photographers struggle because they don't know:

  • Why one image works while another doesn't.
  • How to organize thousands of photographs.
  • Which photographs deserve editing.
  • How much editing is too much.
  • Why colors often look unnatural.
  • How professionals edit hundreds of travel photographs efficiently.

These workshops address photography as an entire creative workflow rather than isolated software tools.

Participants learn to: Think before shooting. Organize photographs intelligently. Build consistent editing styles. Create portfolio-ready collections. Edit faster without sacrificing quality. Preserve authenticity. The objective is simple: Make Lightroom feel effortless

Importing Without Chaos

One of the biggest mistakes photographers make is dumping thousands of files into random folders.

The workshop introduces a structured archive system that makes photographs searchable years later.

Topics include:

  • Folder hierarchy
  • Naming conventions
  • Metadata
  • Keywords
  • Collections
  • Smart collections
  • Ratings
  • Color labels

A five-year-old image should be discoverable within seconds.

Learning Color Rather Than Copying Presets

Presets have become fashionable.

But relying entirely on presets often produces identical-looking photographs regardless of location.

Instead, participants learn:

  • Understanding white balance
  • Reading natural colors
  • Correcting mixed lighting
  • Balancing shadows
  • Recovering highlights
  • Preserving skin tones
  • Creating mood naturally

Every photograph deserves its own treatment.

Editing With Restraint One lesson often surprises participants. Sometimes the best edit is doing less. Instead of pushing every slider to its maximum, photographers learn how subtle adjustments preserve realism while enhancing visual impact. Travel photography should still look like the place you visited. Not a fantasy version.

Not a fantasy version.

A Personal Learning Experience, Not a Classroom The workshops intentionally remain interactive. Participants are encouraged to bring their own photographs rather than relying on sample files. Every photograph tells a different story. A misty Himalayan sunrise demands a different editing approach than a crowded Delhi market. An old monastery differs from a modern skyline. Instead of demonstrating one "perfect edit," every image becomes a conversation.

Questions naturally emerge.

Why crop this way?

Why preserve shadows?

Why remove distractions?

Why keep imperfections?

These discussions often become the most valuable part of the workshop.

Hidden Lessons That Most Lightroom Courses Never Teach Some of the most valuable discussions happen between software demonstrations. For example: Why shouldn't every photograph be perfectly sharp? Why do shadows create mystery? How much noise should remain?

Hidden Lessons That Most Lightroom Courses Never Teach

Some of the most valuable discussions happen between software demonstrations.

For example:

Why shouldn't every photograph be perfectly sharp?

Why do shadows create mystery?

How much noise should remain?

When should reflections stay imperfect?

Why does removing every tourist sometimes reduce authenticity?

Photography is filled with judgment calls.

These conversations help photographers develop their own visual language.

I have been doing Lightroom Workshops in different parts of India for quite some time although these were on pause for few years now. Recent lockdown due to COVID-19 made me start interacting with like minded people through online sessions on Adobe Photoshop Lightroom and now there is no boundary. This weekend, I did an online session on Lightroom for Travel bloggers whom I met in last 10 years or so. Some of them joined it from other countries. This is also first time, when we recorded these sessions and now available on our youtube channel. Thought of sharing this series of videos in this blog as well along with details about each video. If you are new to Adobe Photoshop Lightroom, please watch these 3 videos in same sequence and hope that it will enable to start using Lightroom. Feel free to share your questions through comments section below and we will ensure to respond within 24 hrs. If you are interested in specific topics, each video has it's description below it. Read through and see which one is more relevant for you.

Participants receive joining details and preparation guidelines before each session.

Where to Stay (For Outstation Participants)

If attending an in-person workshop in another city, consider staying:

  • Near the workshop venue
  • Close to metro connectivity
  • In business hotels for convenience
  • In heritage stays if combining learning with photography walks

Booking an extra day before or after the workshop allows time to practice what you've learned.

Cameras have become smarter. Artificial intelligence can remove distractions, replace skies, and even generate scenes that never existed. But none of these tools can replace the quiet satisfaction of capturing an honest moment and shaping it thoughtfully into a lasting image.

About VJ Sharma:

VJ Sharma is an Adobe Certified Expert (ACE) in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom and has worked on developing digital imaging software at Adobe, combining hands-on photography expertise with deep technical knowledge of image processing.

His vision is to empower creative minds by helping them truly understand Adobe Photoshop Lightroom—not just as an editing application, but as a powerful creative and digital asset management tool that transforms ideas into compelling visual stories. Whether you're a beginner, a travel blogger, a content creator, or an experienced photographer, VJ's goal is to help you edit with confidence, work more efficiently, and build a streamlined workflow. While many people think of Lightroom purely as a photo editing application, he demonstrates how it can become an indispensable companion for organizing, managing, finding, and preserving your photographic journey for years to come.

After recent Lightroom workshop http://phototravelings.blogspot.in/2012/04/third-lightroom-workshop-at-apex.html at APEX, I was excited about wonderful opportunity to attend Food Photography Workshop by Dinesh Khanna and Aditya Arya at APEX. Today (on 19th May 2012), one day workshop on Food Photography happened with some of the enthusiastic folks from different walks of life. This Photo Journey is trying to share the enviornment of the workshop, although it misses some of the aspects like interations, Lighting experiments, Food Stlying etc..APEX, Academy of Photography Excellence has a nice place in the basement which is usually used for these workshops. Today Dinesh and Aditya were ready with all the preparations at 11:00 am. Anjali, Food Stylist, was there to help them. It was more exciting to see all kitchen stuff on one side of the room and a table surrounded by different types of lights. One laptop was projected on front wall, which was mainly for showing slides or photographs being shot during the workshop. Apart from this one projector was installed on other wall to project live video of all things happening in the front - food styling, lighting etc. This video projection was important as noticing everything form our seats would have been impossible. But during later half of the workshop, most of us were very close to main area, so this video was not really required at that moment of time. Let's start that how the workshop started and what all happened during this.. After brief introduction of every participant and Instructors, Dinesh started talking about Food Photography in general and starting sharing specific details through slides. After some theorotical basis about Food Photography, general trends and practices he started showing some of the photographs hae had shot during his career. Above photograph shows projection of one of his photographsIt was amazing to hear about story around each food photograph and how it was shot. He told about different types of food items, their colors and texture etc. At the same time he talked about various challenges in food photography and how usually Food Photographers handle them. It was interesting to hear some of their own case-studies After Dinesh, Aditya showed his Food Photographs with different style and it was great to see two different kinds of shots & thoughts. This was something very interesting, which lead to some healthy discussions about shooting practices in studios or kitchens etc. After looking at photographs of Dinesh adn Aditya, we broke for lunch and second half was completely about actual shooting with different types of food items, various lighting equipments etc. Dinesh moved step by step and intially talked about ambient light which can be a great source of shooting and explained about scenarios when it's difficult to reply on ambient light only. He started with one light without any defusing element on it and explained about the problems we need to overcome. He gradually added other lighting elements like defuser, reflector and mirrors etc. He was using Lightroom Tethering to project shot photographs immediately for reviewThere were some good discussions about lighting angles, placements of different objects etc. In above photograph Dinesh is reviewing the recently shot photograph on projector. This is the moment when everyone used to look at the photograph and discuss various options to further improve it. Dinesh used different combinations of various lights but didn't use flash initially and then same setup was shot by Aditya in his style & using flash Aditya was using Mamiya Leaf and this was first time I was seeing this camera outside the LCD screens :) . He was using Leaf Capture for tethering and showing shot photograph on projector. During these shoots we also talked about the forms of food usually used for photography and how different types of props can make a photograph greatDifferent types of food items were shot during this workshop and Anjali was amazingly efficient is doing her styling work. Knowing the critical role of a Food-Stylish was something new for me. I think I missed the part where Anjali also talked about the right places and processes to buy stuff for Food Photography.Between the shots, Anjali needed to chip in for improving the styling as per suggestions from participants and Dinesh/Aditya. It was interesting to see huge difference in photographs by some small styling tricks.During the end of the workshop, some of the folks tried their hands on this setup and clicked some photographs. Overall it was great workshop on Food Photography, through which we also got to know about lighting processes while photographing at home or a studio.

Final Thoughts

Photography has never been easier.

Yet creating memorable photographs has never been more challenging.

Cameras have become smarter. Artificial intelligence can remove distractions, replace skies, and even generate scenes that never existed. But none of these tools can replace the quiet satisfaction of capturing an honest moment and shaping it thoughtfully into a lasting image.

That philosophy is at the heart of Adobe Lightroom Workshops by VJ Sharma.

Whether you've just returned from your first trip with a smartphone full of memories or you're an experienced photographer looking to refine your workflow, the goal is the same: to help you move beyond editing and start seeing.

Adobe Photoshop Lightroom is simply the medium. The real lesson is learning to observe, to be patient, and to tell stories that remain authentic.

At TravellingCamera, every workshop is an invitation to slow down, look closer, and rediscover the joy of photography—not as a race for perfect images, but as a lifelong journey of curiosity, creativity, and meaningful travel.

I have attended a workshop on Lightroom by Vijay and honestly it was the most useful thing that I spent my money on after my camera equipment. Besides improving my photos a lot it was so satisfying watching a photo practically transform in front of my eyes when I applied my learnings from the workshop. I highly recommend Vijay's training for anyone who wants to take their photography seriously.
