#MyCity SunderNagar(Himachal Pradesh, India) - by Karan K Gupta

The need of hour is to develop and include new locations on tourist map so that people travelling to Himachal Pradesh don’t have to travel to same places time and again. Being from Sundernagar and being based out of Himachal for last 12 years, I come across new people almost every day in my life. If I tell them that I belong to Sundernagar, almost all of them connect it with the Lake and having passed through town on way to Manali. But what many of you might not know that there are quite a few places around Sundernagar which have potential to be on tourist map if proper infrastructure is developed. I would like to present through some pictures some off beat locations one can explore around main township of Sundernagar.1 Shikari Mata Temple - Janjehli Valley : Also famous as roofless temple, legend says that whenever priests tried to build a roof over the temple it won’t sustain. Also in winters when whole mountain top is covered by snow, there is no snow in temple area. 2 Maa Baglamukhi Temple One can also find serenity at Maa Baglamukhi temple nestled somewhere in forests of Janjehli valley. A different type of Himachali wooden architecture can be observed here. 3 Murari Mata Temple On a clear sunny day one can have a bird eye view of Sundernagar and surroundings from the mountain top temple of Murari Mata. The road leading to Murari Mata is a bit off roading which adds to excitement of making it to the top. The vast water reservoir better known as Sundernagar lake is fully visible. 4 Jalpa Mata Saroa Chail Chowk Even I had not visited this beautiful temple having state of art wooden carving. Although it was raining the day I recently visited so couldn’t get a clear picture, but one must surely visit this temple. One can trek 8 km to Kamrunag temple from here, to which I look forward soon. 5 Also en-route Mata Saroa temple you shall come across this newly built Monastery.
