The famous Petronas Twin Towers of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia & things to do around it

The way level of infrastructure is growing all across the world, I find it hard to explain some of these popular places which are called highest/largest/etc during a specific time-frame and then something else comes in to replace those records. When I double checked about Petronas Twin Towers, it seems these towers were tallest in the world till 2004 and probably the time when Twin Towers became very popular was 1998-2004. Because that was the time when everybody used to know Kuala Lumpur's twin towers as tallest in the world. Even today, they are now called 'tallest twin towers', as Burj Khalifa is highest building in the world as of today.

So from 2004, many other taller buildings came into existence - Burj Khalifa in Dubai, Shanghai Towers in China and many more as per the table below.

Even after looking at all these statistics and rankings, Petronas Twin Towers would remain special as these are 2 similar towers together and beautifully built. Almost everyone who visits Kuala Lumpur ensures that s/he visits Twin Towers and witness it's grandness. During my one day halt in Malaysia, I also planned to visit Twin Towers and also went inside to experience the Christmas cheers inside this beautiful building.

When you drive towards Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur, at least one of the towers would be visible through the connecting roads. In fact, this part of Kuala Lumpur has plenty of skyscrapers and some of them are also pretty interesting. Like the one you see in the photograph below, the building on the left is quite high and there are green plants on all the floors. So this building looks pretty green when you are standing in the Twin-Towers park.

Above photograph is clicked from the park and the fountain area in front of Petronas Twin Towers of Kuala Lumpur. Most of the folks visiting Twin Towers come to this park as it offers great views of the towers with least distraction. Folks also stand in front of the towers to get clicked for keeping these memories with them. Usually Petronas Twin towers can't be captured from this place completely, unless you have extra wide lens. Around this place, you see various vendors selling fish-eye phone-camera lenses which help in capturing the towers well.

Petronas Twin Towers look awesome in the evening when it's very well lit. I didn't have that option as I had to leave before these lights are switched on. But whenever you plan, try planning to visit Twin-towers in late evening. I am sure you must have seen those beautiful night photographs of Petronas Twin Towers on various other websites/blogs. There is an interesting history behind how these towers evolved. Instead of translating everything here, I would encourage to check wikipedia to know when the planning of the towers started, how it proceeded etc.

When at Petronas Twin Towers, we also went inside and explored it's retail center which has most of the popular and expensive brands at one place. Let's quickly talk about things to do in Petronas Twin Towers and around - 1. Explore the shopping area, even if you don't want to shop anything. If you want to try food court, go for Indian or Malay food. It's obvious, why Malay food and Indian is because of the fact that lot of Indian tourists visit Malaysia so serving Indian cuisine has been mastered upto a level in comparison to other cuisines. 2. Certainly go to the front park and the fountain area, to get your photograph clicked with Twin Towers in the background. 3. If you are at Petronas Twin Tower during night, ensure that you enjoy it's beautiful fountains. 4. Sky Bridge & visit to 86th floor is one of the most popular touristy thing to do, which I skipped. It's open from Tuesday to Sunday (9am to 9pm) and costs 80 RM ($24). 5. Filharmonik Hall is another interesting place where various shows and musical events take place. Because of the lack of time, I didn't even go there but at times some brilliant shows happen here. So do check out whenever you are visiting and if you have time. These are mostly paid shows and cost varies from one to another. 6. Probably more stuff around this place, but I didn't spend that much time. You may also want to check - "Top 5 places to visit/explore in a day around Kualalumpur, Malayasia"
