HUAWEI P9 - A Smartphone with dual cameras for Photography enthusiasts

I have been using Huawei Honor phone for last one year and quite happy with it. Recently Huawei launched a very interesting smartphone and I thought of sharing about this phone, which has Lieca powered dual cameras on rear side. It’s a sleek smartphone with 5.2 inch touchscreen with 1080*1920 resolution at 423 PPI. Huawei P9 is using 1.8GHz octa-core HiSilicon Kirin 955 processor and has 3GB RAM. Phone has 32GB internal memory and can be expanded to 256GB. Doesn’t that sound amazing. And wondering how of smartphone users actually upgrade to 100GB+ . Any guesses? And this phone comes with Android 6.Should we talk about camera or ‘Leica Powered lens/camera’ says it all? P9 has a 12MP RGB main sensor accompanied by 12MP monochrome chip. Huawei claims that image info from both sensors makes P9 camera 100% more light-sensitive than conventional smartphone cameras, which would result in superior low light image quality. And because of dual lens, this phone camera is capable of giving much interesting bokeh or depth of field. The camera gives you 27mm focal length and f2.2. Camera has laser assisted AF. And please note that camera shoots DNG Raw and hence you can leverage this capability with apps like Lightroom on Android for dealing with rich light information captured through P9 cameras. There are few manual controls like Shutter-speed, exposure compensation, ISO etc. You can shoot 1080p Full-HD video with this phone. 720p, 120fps slow-motion videos are also possible.Front camera is F2.4, which would give you enough light for selfies.Phone has 3000mAh battery. I am yet to use & evaluate how effective it is.Huawei P9 has a beautiful body which can be easily hold in you hand and used. Volume & power buttons are on right side of the phone. Fingerprint control is on back-side, just below cameras.I have spent a few days with this phone and I find it as a nice choice for folks who love to click right exposure with decent dynamic range in highlights. Getting highlight dynamic range is usually a challenge with phone cameras. In built noise reduction of the phone at high ISO works well. Although you may notice luminance noise at base ISO. I missed image stabilization, but I guess I am getting too greedy and should remember that it’s a smartphone and is available at reasonable price. Please note that Raw mode clicked raw as well as a Jpeg. Good performance and efficient HDR mode.Stay tuned for some interesting Photo Journeys with photographs clicked with Huawei P9 and some tips around Phone Photography.
