White Photo Journey from Mall Road, Ridge ground and various other parts of Shimla Town - by Sanjeev Sharma || Snowfall 2012 in Himachal Pradesh, India

Shimla has been getting snowfall since 5th January 2012 and Sajeev has been capturing each moment of post-snowfall moments at various places around Shimla - Mall Road, Ridge ground, Scandal point, Lakkar Bazar etc. This year Shimla is getting heavy snowfall and some of the evidences can be seen in this Photo Journey from last week... Sanjeev Sharma with unknown Cameraman, Zee news, Shimla :)Sanjeev himself on Ridge Ground, while it's snowing on Ridge Ground, Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, India. You can see Christ Church on one corner of the Ridge and Shimla Library adjacent to it. Somehow Shimla is known by these two buildings. Yesterday only I saw fridge magnet at Connaught Place, Delhi with these two buildings carved on a marble piece to make a souvenir of Shimla, Himachal Pradesh. There were lot of other stuff form various cities of India like Jaipur, Varanasi, Maisoore etc. Here is a photograph with footmarks of people who were enjoying fresh snowfall on Ridge Ground and left for their homes.Although there are still few folks roaming around. Whole sky is covered with dense mist or clouds. The leading path is actually touching Mall Road, which is one of the main places people love to roam around in Shimla. buildings on left side are Goofa Restaurant and Bar by HPTDC and Gaitey Theatre, which was renovated last year only. Here is a closer look to Goofa Restaurant and Bar. One of the decent place to have dinner on Ridge Ground, although our experience of Goofa bar was not so good, when we were in University. But this is considered one of the decent places..Business in Snow... The famous Krishna bakers is closed but 100 Pipers and other brands of whiskey are available. And probably Rum would be more demand in such a lovely snow. Just notice the height of snow on the road... All these shops are located on lower part of the Mall Road...Another view of ridge Ground from an elevated boundary which leads towards Jakhu Temple, Shimla.Snow was on and off during last 10 days and yesterday there was heavy snowfall, which made people comment negatively about it. Till yesterday everyone from Shimla was putting happy and interesting statuses about Snowfall on facebook. But suddenly things changed yesterday when this snow started impacting lives of people in Shimla. For tourists, heavy snowfall can be good but for loacl folks it creates lot of problems at times. Water and Electricity supply is one of the main challenge during heavy snowfall hours. Notice the forest behind Mr. Sanjeev which are still white and these high deodars look amazing with snow on top of themPath created by Ambulance is being smartly used by these folks. vehicles are not allowed on Ridge Ground and Mall Roads.. Only Ambulance or police vehicles are allowed as and when required. Although many bollywood movies have shown vehicles flying on ridge ground. All that is done after special permissions from Shimla Authorities. Here is a a view of Shimla Ice Skating Club, which is located just below Lakkar Bazar, Shimla. This club is also visible from top of Indira Market on Ridge Ground. During December a national level event is organized, where lot of professionals come to this club for showing their Ice Skating performances. Even without ice these folks from Shimla can be seen on Mall Road and Ridge on every Saturday :)Evening view of Ridge with spoiled snow... Place like Shimla are enjoyable either during fresh snowfall or without any snow. After 2 or 3 days of snowfall, snow melts or take a shape of huge pieces of ice which are risky to walk and dirty as well. During that time, snow in places are Kufri or Narkanda is more enjoyable. In fact, these days Skiing training is going on at Dhomri, Narkanda...Mr. Sanjeev, covered with multi-layered cloths and posing for a photograph against scandal point. Scandal point is a place from where two roads are diverted - one towards Ridge ground and other continues as Mall Road towards Shimla Town Hall and Gaiety Theatre.Gukli just stood up for this photograph, otherwise he must be busy in making snowman or playing snowballs :) ... Smile on his face is telling about the excitement about fresh snowfall in Shimla.Every year tourists come to Shimla during last week of Decemeber in a hope of Snowfall, but now timings have shifted a bit. For last few years, Shimla is getting snowfall in second week of January or towards end of first week. This year (2012), it was first time that some of the regions in Himachal got snowfall. Places like Hamirpur were also covered with white sheet of snow, although it remained only for few hours and then disappeared. At the same time various places of Kangra District got snowfall - Nagrota, Palampur, Dharmshala and Kangra town itself. Kangra Twon got snowfall after 52 years...Sanjeev is still waiting for his car to be uncovered of Snow Blanket... Try to imagine, how people in Shimla must be commuting to their offices and other places for some work... Conditions get worse in case of continuous snowfall for longer period of time. Many businessmen in Shimla make more money during tis season but at the same time, many folks with small setups loose lot of business due to heavy snow. I am sure that every weekend Shimla is getting lot of tourists from Punjab and Delhi...Sanjeev in perfect pose for this photograph with snow in the background :) (Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, India)Another amazing view of Ridge Ground covered with Snow and few folks walking on it... I still remember the day when I saw snowfall first time and we came to Mall Road for playing with snowballs... Everyone from our class was on Mall Road and whole day was full of fun and enjoyment....Sanjeev looks pretty happy and hopeful about this snowfall... Probably he is done with his walk on Mall Road and moving towards Press Club at Indira Market on Ridge ground of Shimla TownHere is last and wonderful photograph of this amazing Photo Journey by Sanjeev Sharma. Hope that snowfall comes with happiness and keep whole environment cheerful without any damage to anyone. Sanjeev in perfect pose for this photograph with snow in the background :) (Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, India)

Wow such amazing pictures. You are right about snow being pretty only while it is fresh. The inconveniences are immense. However, even though it is for a brief while, snow magically transforms the landscape as captured beautifully in your photographs. :) Thanks for sharing
