Back in 2008, when I started Travellingcamera.com, it was simply a way to share photographs and short travel notes. I never imagined it would grow into a platform with over 14 million views. What started as a personal learning exercise soon became a space for storytelling, travel inspiration, photography experiments, and reflections on the small joys of life.

Over the years, Vibha joined me in this journey, and together we’ve explored not just destinations but also deeper themes around travel — culture, people, food, festivals, and everyday experiences.

Perched on a hilltop west of Kathmandu city, the Swoyambhu Mahachaitya stands as one of the most ancient and revered Buddhist monuments in Nepal. Known to travelers as the Swayambhunath Stupa or affectionately as the Monkey Temple, this iconic site has watched over the valley for centuries, offering a blend of spirituality, culture, history, and breathtaking panoramic views.

Over the years, Vibha joined me in this journey, and together we’ve explored not just destinations but also deeper themes around travel — culture, people, food, festivals, and everyday experiences.

As Travellingcamera evolved, so did we, learning to see travel not as a checklist of places but as a lens to appreciate the world more fully.

It was the day of Holi Festival and I started early at 3am for Bengaluru. I was full of excitement and everything went well and I reached Bengaluru by 9:30am. Now plan was to start at 4pm from Taj West End and I had whole day. Because of Holi I didn’t want to go out, but later got to know that Holi is not celebrated at that scale in south India.

As Travellingcamera evolved, so did we, learning to see travel not as a checklist of places but as a lens to appreciate the world more fully.

The garden is a perfect blend of Mughal and Indian architectural styles, which makes it one of the most romantic sites in Jaipur.

More Than Numbers

The 14 million mark is special not for the number itself, but for what it represents: connections

In 2007, I was on a trip to Dalhousie, Khajjiar and Chamba during one of the long weekends. Vikas and I planned this trip at last moment, like many other trips/hikes. This trip to Dalhousie was very special in many ways but meeting Satish Kaushik made it even more special. Satish Kaushik was also in Dalhousie at that point of time and he was shooting a film as director around the hills of Dalhousie in Himachal Pradesh state of India. During our second day of the trip, we were on our way to Khajjiar and there is a small spot on the way where every tourist cab stops. When we stepped out, we got to know that some shooting is going on in a house on hill top. There was a small hike to that place. Vikas and I decided to check out what's happening and as we started our hike, after may be 20 steps, we saw Satish Kaushik sitting on a chair and an assistant was with him. So Satish Kaushik was hiking with small steps and taking breaks in between. We stopped and said 'Hello' to him. He was not comfortable due to breathing issues but waved his hands. We waited a bit and after some hesitation, asked him if we can get a photograph clicked with him. He said, why not and directed his staff member to click a photograph for us. After we got this photograph clicked, we were moving slower to ensure that we give him some company, but he cleared didn't want it :). After few minutes, he asked us to move on. I don't remember what he said but I remember that there was a clear passion in his voice and he used the word 'boys'. We moved on and reachd the top where whole shooting crew was getting the set ready for the day. We spent some time to see what all they were doing. There were 2 young actors which were being treated as stars but we couldn't recognise who they were. While coming back, we were expecting that we will meet him again but we couldn't find him. Probably he came to the location and was in some enclosed area. Today these details crossed my mind when I heard about Satish Kaushik in the morning. I thought of writing it down. I am writing an impromptu post after a long time. Today we lost a great actor and artist and India will miss him for great movies he has given us. What was your favourite dialogue delivered by Mr Satish Kaushik or fav role he played. Please drop a comment below.

Every view is a traveler searching for inspiration, a reader planning a trip, or someone simply curious about a place, a festival, or a photo. Some posts become evergreen guides, while others spark nostalgia or curiosity.

Reaching 14 million views gives us a chance to reflect on which stories people have gravitated to most. These are some of the posts that have drawn the most attention over the years — not just by views, but in comments, shares, and in how they seem to capture what readers connect with.

Whenever I am at the threshold of an imposing fort, especially one as high as the Golconda, the first thought is. I don't think I can make it to the highest terrace. However, so far, I have always been able to reach the highest point.

Below are highlights of a few of them, with thoughts on what made each special.

BlogpostWhat It IsWhy It Resonated / What We Learned
Main Places to Visit Around Dalhousie (Aug 2010)A travel guide-style post for tourist / scenic spots around Dalhousie. This kind of post tends to do well because people planning travel want concrete suggestions. It gives them an itinerary starter. Also, Dalhousie has a built-in charm: cool climate, scenic views, colonial architecture, accessible hill walks. The visuals + info combination made it very useful. It reminds us of the blog’s early purpose: putting together photos, impressions, and helpful info.
Travel & Music ‖ Enchanting Himachal and its Charming Songs (Jul 2020)A post blending travel, culture, music — exploring Himachali music, songs from weddings and local life, tied to landscapes and experiences. Travelling CameraThis post is special because it moves beyond geography / places. It’s personal, emotional, cultural. It connects to identity, nostalgia, senses (hearing, mood) rather than only what you can see. People love stories that pull them in via culture and feelings. It shows that the blog evolved — not just “where to go”, but “what it feels like to be there.”
Main Places to Visit in ChandigarhAnother city-/travel-guide style post. Likely many people searching “What to do in Chandigarh” land here.Practical utility + a well-visited city = lots of traffic. Also, readers from or visiting Chandigarh probably appreciate seeing familiar places and “insider” tips. Posts like this help build trust: “oh, I can use this if I travel there.”
Canon 1300D vs Nikon 3300D — Which One Is Better?A gear-comparison post. Helps readers who are trying to decide on entry-level DSLRs.Technical / gear posts often attract different kinds of attention: those genuinely interested in photography. This likely drew people via search engines (people comparing these cameras), and helped the blog reach beyond just travel stories. It also underscores that photography isn’t just decoration — it’s a core part of what Travellingcamera is about.
Creative Rangoli Designs to Make Your…A design / art inspired post (Rangoli).Shows diversity of content — not always travel or trek or guide, but art / culture / traditions. Posts themed around festivals or visuals often get attention especially around the relevant times (Diwali etc.). Good visuals + cultural resonance = high interest.
Diwali Rangoli Art at AdobeA festival / cultural / visual arts post (Diwali rangoli). This kind of content leverages strong cultural moments. Also, people often search for “Diwali rangoli ideas” etc., so these posts attract seasonal traffic. Also, the photos + colours make it shareable.
Indian President’s House, Delhia heritage / architecture / local history / travel-within-city post.People both local and visiting want to know about landmark places in Delhi. Heritage and governmental buildings have a certain draw. Also such content tends to stay relevant over years (less risk of becoming outdated).

In today's digital age, the world of travel blogging is more competitive than ever, with countless enthusiasts vying for attention and engagement online. To stand out in this crowded landscape and attract genuine, organic traffic to your travel blog, mastering the art of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is essential. In this comprehensive guide, we'll explore actionable tips and strategies to help you optimize your travel content for maximum visibility and impact.

🔍 What These Posts Teach Us

From looking at these most-viewed posts, a few patterns emerge — lessons that Vibha & I also internalised as the blog evolved:

In today's digital age, the camera capabilities of smartphones have revolutionised the way we capture and share moments. While automatic shooting modes can produce great results in many situations, unlocking the full potential of your phone camera often requires delving into the world of manual controls. Enter Pro Mode – a powerful feature that puts creative control at your fingertips, allowing you to capture stunning photographs with precision and finesse. In this blog post, we'll explore the ins and outs of Pro Mode and share tips for mastering this advanced shooting mode to take your mobile photography to new heights.

  1. Usefulness + Relevance
Posts that serve a practical purpose — “what to visit”, “how to decide between gear”, “ideas for festivals” — tend to attract sustained traffic. They answer real questions readers have.

Nestled in the heart of Odisha, the ancient city of Cuttack (Kuttak) boasts a rich tapestry of history, culture, and vibrant traditions. Join us on a day-long exploration as we unravel the main places that make Cuttack a captivating destination, offering a perfect blend of heritage and modernity.
  1. Cultural / Emotional Depth
When a post is more than just information — when it weaves in culture, memory, mood (like Himachali songs or Diwali art) — it resonates more deeply. Readers often remember and share those.

  1. Strong Visual Appeal
Travel & photography go hand in hand. Posts with evocative images, with light, mood, composition, help bring the story alive. Rangoli designs, scenic hills, heritage architecture — these are very “lookable” and shareable.

I was particularly excited about Jaisalmer on our recent road trip to Bikaner, Jaisalmer, and Jodhpur. One of the reasons for this excitement was the sand dunes. I was imagining us sitting on cool sand, sipping on cold drinks, watching the sun set in the distance. And the second attraction I was excited was the Jaisalmer Fort.
  1. Evergreen Content
Posts like heritage places, camera comparisons (if the gear is still used), festival traditions, etc., remain relevant over time. They get new visitors years later. That helps smooth out fluctuation and builds cumulative views.

One of the most exciting places we visited during our road-trip from Noida to Rameshwaram is Gandikota and there are multiple reasons for that. This blogpost will share more about Gandikota, the amazing places to explore around it, along with specially curated list of tips by Travellingcamera.
  1. Seasonality / Timeliness
Festival posts (Rangoli, Diwali, etc.), or posts around wedding songs/music, etc., get boosts during certain seasons or events. Timing helps. Also, travel-posts become relevant when people are planning holidays or breaks.

My sabbatical was coming up and I would have nearly 1 month off. I wanted to do something memorable during this time and be at a beautiful place while doing that "something memorable". Ghats was the natural choice. One of our friends enidhi suggested two likely itineraries :
  1. Personal Roots & Stories
Posts where Vibha or I inject our own experience, memories, or personal connections (for example in the Himachali music post) tend to have more heart. That shows through, and people often engage more with content that feels human.

After visiting the abandoned village of Kuldhara, another stop on the way to Sam Sand Dunes was the Khaba Fort. It is located about 21 kilometers from Kuldhara and it took us close to 1.5 years to reach. This wasn't because of the condition of the road. It was because of all the many stops we made on the way.

🎯 How These Shape Our Next Steps

Looking forward, here are ideas (drawn from what the high-view posts teach us) for keeping the momentum, perhaps growing faster:

Kuldhara is right up there next to Bhangarh in the list of the most haunted places in India. And when we discussed our plans to go there in the afternoon, our hotel person immediately warned us not to do so. "It is a haunted village. Don't go there close to the evening. Visit in the morning and be back by lunch."

  • Create more hybrid posts — travel + culture + personal narrative + visuals.

One morning while at Jaisalmer, we planned an excursion to Kuldhara and Lodhurva Jain Temples happened to be on the way. So we thought that we would stop there for a few minutes, click a few pictures and be out of the place and on our way to Kuldhara.
  • Do more comparison / gear / “how I photograph” style pieces — both for people who love travel photos and for those just discovering photography.

Rampuria havelis are a group of 15th century opulent havelis that stand out in the labyrinthine roads of old Bikaner. While these havelis are symbols of wealth and luxurious lifestyles of rich merchants of Bikaner, they are surrounded by the comparatively modest homes of the middle class business people.
  • Continue making festival / seasonal content, timed well, with strong visuals.

Navratras are coming and one of the key thing our viewers search on Travellingcamera are - "where to go for celebrating Navratris in India", "special places for Navratris in North India" or related stuff. Keeping this in mind, we thought of compiling what we did a few years back. Even though we can hardly call ourselves knowledgeable enough to suggest about the best itineraries in Gujarat, we feel that we did a fairly good job when it came to planning one at a short notice of two days. So we can still talk about how we finalised the itinerary, what were the considerations, what worked well, and what did not.
  • Update evergreen posts — refresh them (images, tips, local info) so they stay authoritative and relevant.

  • Encourage more personal storytelling — what we felt, what surprised us, what changes us, emotionally or in perspective.

Last winters we drove to Madhya Pradesh from Delhi and we didn't have any definitive plan. We debated multiple plans but finally booked stay in Orchha for 2 days and from thereon we planned on runtime. Finally this road-trip turned out a great success because we had wonderful experiences and most importantly we explored so many things we had never thought. and that's what I love when I say 'travel'. The motivation was to visit Orchha to see Dussehra there as Orchha is considered the land of Raja Ram, where Ram is worshipped as a king and great arrangements are done by private trusts in collaboration with local administration. This Blogpost will share about the itenerary we followed and it can be a great plan for anyone who loves driving and specially in winters, as this part of the country is usually super-hot in summers.

Gratitude 🙏

To everyone who has read, shared, commented, or even stumbled upon the blog once — thank you. You’ve made this journey possible. Each milestone reminds us that stories matter, that images can connect people, and that travel is ultimately about sharing joy.

The Junagarh Fort, despite the name, isn't located in Junagadh, Gujarat. It is a fort in Bikaner. The word Juna or जूना means "Old". The rulers who got the fort built did not name it Junagarh obviously. It was only when the Royal Family moved to the new Lallgarh Palace in the early 20th century, was this fort renamed Junagarh. The original name of the fort was Chintamani. I know, unusual name for a fort.

Here’s to 14 million views — and to many more adventures, frames, and stories ahead. 🚀

The vast landscapes of Ladakh offer countless treasures, but some of the most memorable experiences come from discovering its hidden gems. Among these is Yarab Tso, often referred to as the "Hidden Lake." Nestled in the mountains near the village of Panamic in the Nubra Valley, Yarab Tso is a serene oasis that remains relatively unknown to many travelers. My hike to Yarab Tso was one of the most peaceful and spiritually uplifting experiences during my trip to Ladakh, and I’m excited to share that journey with you.

Nestled in the heart of the Himalayas, Khardung La is a name that resonates with adventurers and thrill-seekers worldwide. Situated at an astounding altitude of 5,359 meters (17,582 feet) above sea level, Khardung La is often celebrated as the highest motorable pass in the world. This remarkable destination is not just a feat of engineering but also a gateway to some of the most breathtaking landscapes and cultural experiences in Ladakh.

Ladakh had been on our minds for several years by the time we got down to seriously planning for a trip there. Initially, we had booked tickets for June 2024, but had to move it to July instead because of several factors. In June, we had planned for 6 days, but when we rescheduled to July, we added a few days, making it a 10-day trip, so that we could cover more ground. We did manage to visit most places in one trip, though this still felt more of an overview. We will need to visit again to really soak it in.

Welcome to Bhubaneswar, the soul of Odisha, where ancient temples, rich history, and vibrant culture converge to create an immersive experience. In this one-day itinerary, we'll guide you through a journey that encapsulates the essence of this temple city, from spiritual landmarks to local delicacies.

Datia in Madhya Pradesh was another location that we covered on our very productive drive back from Khajuraho to Noida. Upon reaching Datia, the state of the roads and the feel of the colony was such that we almost turned back. However a very enticing view of the Datia Palace, which is visible from quite a distance, kept us going.

In almost all temples dedicated to them, the yoginis are depicted in different forms and poses. In some they are sitting in Lalitasana. In some they are depicted standing with their animal vehicles. However, in the Chausath Yogini Temple in Mitaoli, the images of the Yoginis have all been replaced by those of shivling. May be that is why the temple is also known as Ekattarso Mahadev temple.

While on our trip to Orchha and Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh, in October 2021, we also had the good fortune to visit Jhansi as well. It was fascinating to learn that while Orchha is in Madhya Pradesh, Jhansi is in Uttar Pradesh, and the two cities are just half an hour apart.

Ever since I saw the photographs that VJ clicked on his first visit to Pong Dam water reservoir for bird counting, I was very curious about the area. Every year, lakhs of beautiful migratory birds fly across the continents, and choose to land around these wetlands, making them their home for the next few months. Such a place has to be special.

Many times it happens that we are in a particular region and some extra time in hand to explore. So if you are around Khajuraho and only have one day for exploraing the place, I am attemping to list down details itenreray here with details like, when to start, where to go, where to eat, what to skip even if it sounds tempting and why, and the most importantly must epxlore places. Certainly perferences may change on the basis of your interests and we shall also cover that in the end of the blogpost.

We have shared quite a lot about 8 days trip with one of the India's luxury train Golden Chariot but in this post we are going to focus only on the train. What makes this train so special if we forget about great travel experiences to some of the gems of Karnataka State in India. In this post, I am going to answer some of the most obvious questions I have been asked in last few years and hope this will help many who are looking to find about Golden Chariot, services available onboard, along with details on how everything is done very professionally when you are on a 8 days journey with Golden Chariot. Let's get started and know more about the train.

There can be cases when you may want to spend a little more time inside the heritage site - if you want to explore each place with a little detail in terms of history, architecture and do photography in appropriate conditions. Many people who spend more time, prefer hiring bikes which give them flexibility to move between the places without any dependencies.

Before year 2001, there were handful tourist destinations in India and in last 20 years lot of new places caught attention of travellers as well as tourists. And it was mainly driven by key factors like connectivity of these places through public transportation, hotels/resorts to stay in and that too was seasonal. In 20 years, tourism in India has evolved a lot as middle class got access to own vehicles, better per capita income and improvement in infra which is needed to support tourism around lesser known places. But today we are going to talk about a famous tourism destination which had pretty good infrastructure in 1990s as well. We are talking about Nainital in Uttarakhand state of India. Some of the key tourist destinations around hills of North India are developed or influenced by Britishers and some of the wealthy families used to have hotels in these towns like Nainital, Mussourie, Shimla etc.

Recently we realised that some of the places we explored before 2010 are not well covered on the blog and even if covered, the content quality is very poor. It's a continuously learning experience and what we are going to publish today may become irrelevant or demand refurbishing after a few years. Mukteshwar trip to us was very special as this was planned with some of the office colleagues and was sort of impromptu trip to the hills from Noida. At least I can say that I didn't do anything for planning this trip. My friends took care of booking a cab and the hotel. Rest of the things are relatively easier to plan or can be taken care on run time. Related Blogpost - Top Offbeat & Stunning Hill Stations of Himalayan Mountain Ranges in North India

Badami cave temples are mentioned whenever we talk about Indian heritage, art forms, old temples and some unimaginable work which is worth sharing with the world. Apart from these cave temples, Badami and surrounding areas have a lot to offer. Here we are trying to share more about Badami Cave Temples and other important places to explore around Badami region of Karnataka in India.

I had never been to a vineyard in India before and I was really looking forward to this trip to Baramati in Maharashtra. Four Seasons is one of the well known wine producer in India and I really wanted to see how they process their wines. This Photo Journey shares this experience of Four Seasons Vineyard in Baramati ( Maharashtra, India).

The first time I visited 17 Mile Drive in California, a good friend found this place for lunch when we were heading back to Monterey. After that, whenever I went to 17 Mile drive or Monterey, there were discussions about this place but I never got a chance to visit it again. I don't mind that because it makes more sense to try new places. Recently I realised that we never shared about this place and that's a little unfair :). So here we present one of the decent option for Indian food around Monterey and 17 Miles drive, along with details about what to expect in terms of variety, quality, taste and cost.

We booked our new car, an MG Hector (Petrol Smart), in July 2020 and owing to the high demand, received it in December 2020. After that we were driving it to and fro from office and the longest we had driven it was when we went to visit my parents in Delhi (about 45 km one way). And after that Covid-19 stuck the world and all of us were in a lockdown. Our car stayed in the basement for several months. We would start it at times and take it around our sector to keep the battery running, but it was more or less stationary. Then once the nation eased a little in November, we planned a two-week trip to VJ's hometown in Himachal, a tiny village called Badahin in Mandi district. This was the first time we would be driving all the way. Before this, both of us were comfortable driving a compact manual car (Hyundai i10). We had driven long distances (to Churu and back) but never on real hills. The only hill-driving experience we had was in Lonavala for a couple of hours.

While we are battling the Pandemic, the tourism and hospitality industries worldwide are practically reeling under the impact. The Hospitality Industry is staring at a loss of Rs 90,000 crores in the first three quarters of 2020. And if you consider the tourism industry as a whole, the total revenue loss is estimated to be a whopping Rs 1.25 trillion in calendar 2020. Confinement is also taking a toll on mental health and it is important to stay positive in this climate. The Pandemic, like all Pandemics in the past, will pass. It is important to keep taking all precautions and to keep looking forward. For travel enthusiasts, one way could be to keep track of some new initiatives that would mean an exciting post-pandemic travel calendar. Following are some newly developed tourist places in India that you can visit post the Covid19 crisis:

I truly believe that those who have the gift of music are magicians and music is magic. I wish, I too had the gift, but sadly God shortchanged me there. Anyway, but that does not stop me from enjoying music. At least I have that gift. We are planning a trip to Himachal in November, and preparing a playlist for that is on my to-do list. So any suggestions for travel songs are welcome. In the meanwhile, following numbers are definitely going to be on it.

The Time-Turner Series || Deep and Resonant Phnom Penh, CambodiaLiterally speaking, I have been to Phnom Penh thrice. All in December 2017, during one single trip to Cambodia. The city is special to me mostly because the trip came at a time when I needed a break from a lot of things. The trip was one of my busiest travels and it didn't leave much room for me to think too much. Early mornings, late nights, continuous work without breaks, was all that I needed. Moreover, it was a new kind of trip. I was going to be working with Care Cambodia, and I was going to be talking about topics that were fairly new to me. This also meant that I was keeping very busy even before the trip actually began - studying and preparing for it, fretting about how difficult the actual project was going to be, and dealing with all other issues around me. The Time-Turner Series || Deep and Resonant Phnom Penh, Cambodia The Time-Turner series is my opportunity to pen down the lingering memories and impressions of a place I have visited. It helps me relive the experience a bit and also reflect upon the aspects of the place that stood out the most to me. For more Time-Turner posts, follow this link: The Time-Turner Series. The Time-Turner Series || Deep and Resonant Phnom Penh, Cambodia After months of hectic preparations, when I finally landed in Phnom Penh, I was immediately sucked into long work days and hardly had any opportunity to explore the city. However, I knew I would be back in a few days after the project ended and would then have more time on my hands, before my husband was scheduled to join me. But whatever little I had seen of this city was enough to entice me. All streets, all markets, and all corners seemed to have something interesting worth exploring. So I was looking forward to be back. The Time-Turner Series || Deep and Resonant Phnom Penh, Cambodia And the city has history and depth. You meet the cheerful and tuktuk drivers and you feel everything is fine in the world and it has always been. But such is not the case. You only need to search the city's name on google and you would uncover horrors that are difficult to comprehend. The incessant state of turmoil the country was in because of the war between US and Vietnam. The brutal Khmer Rouge that followed, and then the continuous political instability. But still people in Phnom Penh appear warm and cheerful. Even the Tuk Tuk drivers were forever smiling, even if you said "No" to their offer of a ride. The Time-Turner Series || Deep and Resonant Phnom Penh, Cambodia To start with, let me make it clear that you should not visit Phnom Penh for its night markets. It has plenty of markets that are open during the day and you will find several fascinating things you can buy there, but the night market is very dry compared to the Night Markets in Siem Reap. Anyway, the night market is situated near the Mekong Quay, close to Wat Phnom. Shops here start opening up at aroud 4pm and are open till about 10pm. Inside the market, you will find kiosks and shops selling counterfeit clothes, belts, and bags. There are some cute designs up for sale at very reasonable prices, so if you are the right size, you can probably try some. The lanes are narrow and are often very crowded. So one needs to be careful with wallets and phones. The Time-Turner Series || Deep and Resonant Phnom Penh, Cambodia When it comes to the most happening part of Phnom Penh, it is without a doubt the Mekong Quayside. Mekong is a huge river and I guess it is because of this that it is almost always very windy in the evening. Also, some of the most impressive buildings of Phnom Penh, the Royal Palace, Independence Memorial, Wat Phnom, and Wat Ounalom, are very close to the Quayside. You can walk everywhere. The Time-Turner Series || Deep and Resonant Phnom Penh, Cambodia You see all kinds of interesting people on the quay. Here you see two monks, of different age groups, in deep discussion. The strange thing about Monks is that you see them with the unlikeliest of accessories. Sometimes you see them with a stoup, sometimes with an iPhone. The older monk here seems to be carrying a leather bag. The Time-Turner Series || Deep and Resonant Phnom Penh, Cambodia Lined along the quay are the flags of all the countries that have embassies in Cambodia. India is one of them, and here we are being silly beneath the Indian Tricolor. To be honest, when I was alone in Phnom Penh, I did get a bit emotional about this flag. I used to sit beneath it and enjoy the cool evening breeze. The Time-Turner Series || Deep and Resonant Phnom Penh, Cambodia One important place to visit in Phnom Penh is the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum. It is also a very difficult place to visit. It is right in the middle of the town and a sharp reminder of how bad things were at one point in time for this resilient city. It is shocking how deceptive the building is. At the first glance, it still looks like a normal school. Only when you go into the rooms that once used to be the classrooms or take a closer look at the grounds do you discover the horrors. Even though it is quite a sobering experience, you cannot understand Phnom Penh without knowing what the city has been through. The Time-Turner Series || Deep and Resonant Phnom Penh, Cambodia And it is this depth, this resilience, and the spirit that I truly admire. This makes Phnom Penh one of my favorite cities in the world.

Recently I was attending a story-telling workshop and there was an exercise about telling a story from my life or something which will remain a memorable thing for me. I don't know why this experience came to mind and I thought of noting it down on my blog as well. I literally get goosebumps when I think about this experience and not sure if I will be able to express it in same way through this blog. Let me attempt and share through comments, if you could relate to it.

During my recent visit to Dalhousie, we planned to do a small trek to Dainkund (Temple Pohlani). This Photo Journey shares about our experience through clouds and how we beaten the rain. And if you are in Dalhousie during Monsoon, this trek is highly recommended. You literally walks through clouds and it's an easy trek.We drove through Kala Top to the base of this trek, which is entry gate of Air force base. We parked our car there and started the trek. There is well paved path for 1 km, which is maintained by temple authority. This path certainly made our lives easy during monsoons. This is a view after walking up for 250 meters. This road goes down to Dalhousie and Kala Top.As we started the trek, rain started and we thought of skipping it and going to Khajjiar instead. But in few minutes we encouraged each other to use umbrellas and start climbing up. And at the end it proved to be rewarding.Clouds were playing hide and seek with us. At times, they were chasing us and in few minutes sun was shining by clearing them away.Throughout the trek you are exposed to some breathtaking views of valley full of high deodars and birds flying all around. We saw few colorful butterflies on our way but couldn't click them well.We did the trek at our own pace. Stopped many times and enjoyed quick snacks which we were carrying with us. And Urvi was always ready to pose :)On the way, there is a temple which is 2.5 kilometers away from road. Lot of local folks visit this temple. Interesting most of the temples in this region don't have roofs. There is a little shop near the temple from where you can buy snacks and juices. While walking through the mountains, Vibha pointed towards this cloud form. With a smile she says - 'doesn't it look like a giraffe?'. Do you think so?There is a beautiful view through clouds. Most of the times clouds stopped our view of surroundings but such views through clouds were very special. This is 3 kilometers trek which means you need to walk for 6 kilometers. And we had 3 years old trekker with us. Mentioning that to share that anyone can do this trek. It's very easy and the experience can be very rewarding. On a clear day, Khajjiar is visible from top.Panoramic views from top were mesmerizing. There is small shelter on the way. We took a break here where it started raining heavily.Every now and then we were stopping to views awesome scenes all around us. Here Urvi is trying to locate Khajjiar :)Not sure what Indu is trying to do on phone because there is no signal on these hills :) . Probably checking the photograph she just clicked with her phone. We reached there quite early and met this gentleman. He offers horse riding to tourists coming to this place.Urvi loved walking throughout and showing some interesting views to us. Vibha and Urvi were most observant from the lot.It was time to head back and don't miss to watch time-lapse videos shared below.

Last week over tea, some colleagues started talking about how they have been unable to go for vacations ever since they had kids some of their kids are two years old now. The discussion quickly turned into a debate with people vociferously defending both ends of the spectrum. While some colleagues had started going out on vacations when their kids were just a few months old, others were still waiting for the kids to grow up to a more "manageable" age (though the definition of "manageable" was different for everyone). I have a little nephew and a neice and both have been travelling since they were babies. One cannot deny that there are challenges when it comes to taking young kids on long travels. One may get stuck at a place without basic amneties. Kids may fall sick. They may be cranky and moody. They may not enjoy the road trip at all. If you start thinking about things that can go wrong, the list will be endless, so I can empathize with parents who keep postponing travel. However, the question is what is a good age to start travelling. A lot of it depends upon how comfortable parents themselves feel, irrespective of the age of the child. If you belong to the set of parents who are contemplating taking your child on his/her first vacation ever, there are some things you can do to make yourself feel at ease and to ensure that you as well as your child have a comfortable trip: 1) Talk to people who take regularly take their baby/toddler on vacations I don't think this point needs much explanation. People who have been there and done that and then done that all over again can obviously give you tips to prepare well. They can not only give you advice, they can also talk about the mistakes they made so that you can avoid making the same. There's no better teacher than experience. 2) Think of everything, make lists If you are taking your baby out for the first time, you cannot be more careful. Start preparing days before the actual travel. List down everything your baby needs during the day. Talk to the pediatrician and prepare a first aid/basic medication kit. While packing, ensure that you pack for at least one extra day. 3) Don't be too adventurous If this is the first time you are taking your baby out, play safe. Choose a place that is not too remote and has a market and medical facilities. Book your travel and hotel beforehand. Don't leave anything for the last moment. 4) Ensure that the place is suitable for kids Speak to the hotel before making a booking. Ensure that they can provide milk/food/hot water for your baby any time you need. It may be better to opt for a proper hotel for the first time, instead of a homestay. 5) Travel with other families Preferably the one you consulted with in point 1. This way you will have experienced travellers with you and your child too will have company. You will have support in case any unforeseen circumstances arise. And now that it is getting too hot to stay in the plains, you will probably want to take your baby to a hill station. You may get some ideas from our list of 30+ Hill stations in Himachal Pradesh to beat the heat. For those who are adventurous and are traveling without kids, the following post can probably be an inspiration: Trek to Malana from Kasol There are folks who are doing amazing work even as they travel. Check out this wonderful initiative: In discovery of butterflies in Himalayan State of India - with Reetu Patial However, if you are unable to travel too far and still want to experience new things, there's plenty to do in Delhi/NCR too. It was 2008, my room-mate started planning a trek with his brother and brother-in-law. I was not very sure if I want to commit myself to a difficult trek like Shrikhand, so I was passively involved in his planning. Every evening Vikas had new thing to discuss – camping, tents, food, backpacks, what to pack, how to keep the luggage light, rain-suites etc. I was mostly sharing the gyan with him. After few days, I realized that plan is to do this trek during upcoming long weekend. I was tempted as I had to take only 2 extra leaves :).This trek was planned for 3 days and we ended up taking 5 days. There is a long story behind that which is shared in this post. This trekking experience means a lot to me. Such experiences teach you a lot and you know your friends in much better way. And at times, make good friends for life. Vikas has always been a good friend and after this trek I never had any doubts about sharing anything with him. More than that his brother Vishal and Bro-in-law Narender Jijaji are good friends. Those 5 days in hills really changed my perspective. Each of us went through various emotional stages during the trek and others were there to support. Some of us with down physically at different times and our parents were not there to take care of us. All these ups and downs in 5 days brought us close. I clearly remember, I was least interested in planning things for this trek. All planning, shopping, travel arrangements, finding porter, what to eat was decided and arranged by these folks. While writing this I finding it hard to pen down those emotions :). Btw, none of us took bath for 4 days on the trek and frankly we didn’t even feel like it. Everyday rains used to wash our bodies and cloths and the chill made us more comfortable in 4 layers of cloths. I clearly remember the last day when we came down to the base and 3 of us took a dip in chilled water of a stream coming out of one of the glaciers. All photographs here are those which I never wanted to share publicly :) . They my not be very inspiring but that was true experience and that’s how we used to look 8 years back :)Today the upcoming show made me write about this. You must have seen promos of Yaroon ki Baraat on Zee, espcially the one where Amitabha Bachhan says that Shatrughan Sinha is the better actor amongst both of them and Shatru says 'I would agree if he himself says this' with an awesome smile on his face.Since 2008, we made dozens of attempts to do another trek together but 4 of us couldn't plan it. We keep meeting within the city and going with routine things. Travel has been happening for all of us, but we still hope to do another good trek together. We may soon plan Choordhar trek, so stay tuned for the same :

It was a cool winter morning when I took a cab to Gurgaon for an offroading event organized by JK Tyres. When I reached there, the event had already begun and as I walked towards the arena, I could see several mean looking jeeps navigating a tricky looking track. As I got closer, the true nature of the track revealed itself to me. There were strategic potholes (I am using potholes for the lack of a better word. I reality they were much much deeper than any potholes I have come across) to provide severe body/chasis twists, angled depressions, deep ditches, steep hills, and mud to test the vehicles' wadng power. The vehicles were indeed being put through some very tough tests. They had to have tyres that would support them through it.JK Tyre & Industries Ltd, pioneers of radial tyres in India, has recently launched its exclusive range of highly advanced multi-terrain tyres- RANGER. The vehicles that were navigating the tricky track were fitted with these sturdy tyres. And indeed the tyres were supporting the vehicles through all the tests they were being put through.I can say this because I drove the vehicles through the track myself, and throughout the drive, not once did I feel that the vehicle is about to veer off the course or out of control. And this is something because this was the first time I was trying offroading. Before this, I have only driven hatchbacks, though I have driven on some pretty rough roads. The fact that the tyres have exceptional grip was proven all through the track, whether it was while climbing out of the potholes, or while navidating the muddy ditch. I also noticed that the tyres didn't skid when I pressed the break very hard. Upon checking the specifications I noticed that the tyres are capable of decelerating from 100 to 0 kmph in 4 seconds, which is really fast. Here is what JK Tyres says in their release note:JK Tyre’s Ranger Series is designed to upgrade the overall driving experience of SUVs in India. Superior DUAL Tread Compound, in Ranger Series, provides maximum grip & control, to match the power and size of these vehicles. Ranger tyres will be available in two specialised applications, RANGER A/T -for all-terrain performance and Ranger H/T - for tarmac application. The tyres come in 10 sizes and therefore work best with a variety of SUVs available in the Indian market, viz., Audi Q-series Land Rover Freelander, Fortuner, Nissan X-trail, Terrano, Pajero, EcoSport, Duster, and many more.In fact, the two versions of the tyres come with some really great features. Check them out below:RANGER A/T1. Excellent All Terrain Performanc2. Low Noise and Long Life3. Deeper Grooves for Supreme Grip4. Tougher Sidewalls for Tough JourneysRANGER H/T1. Exceptional Control and Stability2. High Traction Strength on Wet Surface3. Superior Grooves for Strong Wet Grip4. Excellent Steering and Handling5. Quieter Running at High SpeedsWith the Ranger series, JK Tyre aims to augment its presence in one of the fastest growing segments in the Indian auto industry i.e. the Sports Utility Vehicle segment. JK Tyre will export the new range of tyres to its international markets. And if I go by my experience with the tyres, I have a strong feeling that the Ranger series will prove to be highly successful. If I owned an SUV, I would have definitely considered getting it fitted with these tyres.

Final destination of Golden Chariot train is Goa and then this luxury train goes back to Bengaluru to relax a bit, till the trip starts with new travellers. In my opinion, Goa was least interesting place in whole itinerary if I compare with other places we discovered with Golden Chariot. I think there is another things related to it - if you have visited Goa earlier you would hate the fact that you have only a day to spend there. So for first timers, it may be a good opportunity to get familiar with the place and the plan extended trip to Goa.

I was born into a family that loves to travel. Let me provide some examples. Long back, when common households had never heard of telephones, my grandfather and grandmother went to Haridwar. My parents, uncles, and aunts had no way of contacting them, and the only hint about the length of this stay was a simple "We'll come back when we feel like." My parents obviously took inspiration, and when I was just two (and my sister 8), they signed our family of four up for a month-long trip on a bus. The itinerary was Kathmandu till Kanya Kumari. This was followed by several shorter, no-less-exciting trips to Rajasthan, Himachal, Uttarakhand (then UP), Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, and Orissa. And I am proud to say that we have managed to keep the tradition alive. Our family trips now involve three generations travelling together - our parents, us, and my 10-year-old nephew. Our first such trip was in 2012 to Lansdowne, Uttarakhand, and since then we have visited several beautiful and interesting places.

Imagine yourself driving down the curvy mountain roads. You are travelling along a fern-covered hill overlooking lush tea gardens. You are with your loved ones - your family, your friends, people with whom you can let your hair down and put your feet up. Your are all silent, trying to soak in the serenity of nature. The nature is silent too, with the exception of a birdcall or two. If at a moment like this, your heart cries out for music, give Himachali folk music a chance. Many of us are aware of the soothing pahadi raag, based on which several popular Bollywood songs have been composed. Some examples are "Aaja re pardesi", "Neela aasman so gaya", "Isharon Isharon mein dil lene waale", and the list is endless. One common trait of these songs is the easy grace, the relaxed pace, and the simple soothing melody. If you have liked these songs, we have the best recommendation for you in terms of music you should play the next time you are out driving in the hills. Very few people are aware that a surprising percentage of Himachali people are blessed with velvetty, medlodious voices. Though there is hardly any tradition of learning music, the Himachali population is genetically blessed. Today, several young local bands are flourishing all across Himachal Pradesh and the music they are coming up with is the perfect fusion of contemporary and traditional. They sing traditional melodies to the chords of modern instruments. Listening to these songs while driving down the meandering hill roads is a bliss. Don't believe me? Check some of the popular bands and their music out right now. Here are some recommendations.

After exploring Own Town of San Diego and walking around farmer’s market, we reached out homestay. The special thing about our homestay was that it was near to the downtown, Balboa Park and the harbor. Almost everyday we used to walk to Downtown from our Homestay which was 15-20 mins walk. We also had MTS card which allowed us to take bus as well as MTS train rides during our stay in San Deigo. This post shares about our Homestay and my very first experience of AirBNB in US.

When I look back at all the trips VJ and I have done together, Churu stands out for more reasons than one - the long drive to Churu and back, my first experience of sand dunes, the thrill of staying in a century-old Haveli, the delight of discovering beautiful frescos on random walls, the joy of listening to Rajasthani folk artists and so much more. There is no dearth of lingering memories when I think about our trip to Churu. But let me share the ones that have left a deeper impression than the others.
Striking an awkward pose at Sethani ka Johara

I know some of you may not like me doing these posts and I also had some conversation offline wherein local people of hills don't really want to encourage tourism, because more tourists means bigger issues in terms of cleanness & wastage of natural resources in many ways. When you talk to locals of any tourist destination, there are always mixed inputs. There are always some people who look at Tourism as business, while others look at tourists as spoilers. And in my opinion, you can't stop things but find out sustainable ways to continue the journey. Without saying much on this bigger topic, I would simply want to move on to the main topic of how I managed to do Spiti trip from Shimla to Shimla in less than 4000 rupees and the trip for 6 days long.

While in Bay area, we drove around various places and while driving from Twin Peaks in San Francisco to Half Moon Bay, we came across Devil's Slide Bunker. It's pretty close to Gray Whale Cove beach. During the drive we stopped many times to enjoy these brilliant views. Around Devil’s Slide Bunker, we noticed lot of folks parking their cars and hiking to this place and we were also tempted to see what's there. This post takes you there, so let's start this Photo Journey.

During early years of social media, I found it childish of people who used to update everything on Facebook. This thought kept me away from updating statuses on Facebook. Most of my posts revolve around photography, blog, a little on technology, my friends etc. Once I was travelling with a friend who is habitual of doing check-in while roaming around. During this trip, we could connect to our old friends in that region. That triggered this thought of using check-in to connect with people.

Now whenever I go out on a trip and I have time to connect with people, I ensure that I check-in and put appropriate details about my plan, stay and timings. That way, lot of folks who are able to meet connect back and we schedule our meetings. Above photograph shows Akash Katare who took out time to take me on drive around San Francisco. We went to Mori Point together and shared lot of things which happened in our lives in 5 years. We were meeting after 5 years in California.

This cheerful group always included me in their photo-walks when I am in California and I always loved the experience.

Since there is a purpose of doing check-in, I don't shy away from doing it. At times you would surprised to know that some of the friends are around and you didn't even know. At times, they might be travelling to that place during same time. Technology has solved many such problem in a beautiful way. Can you think of any other advantage of doing check-in while travelling or visiting a place? Feel free to share throgh comments below.

While driving around San Francisco during the weekend, we also took a break at Twin peaks. This post shares more to explain why Twin Peaks is one of the most popular places to visit in & around San Francisco.

If you happen to be in Darjeeling and are in the mood to see a pretty green space with little or no human presence, you should head to the Shrubbery Nightingale Park. Located at about 2km (25 minute walk) from the Darjeeling Mall, a visit to this park is a good way to start your day. Although you will find neither shrubbery nor nightingales here, you will find enough beauty to soothe your eyes.

Some places offer natural beauty, few offer heritage stories and there can be places which takes you through some amazing adventure, but how many places you know which can offer you trekking experience, divine feeling, spiritual environment, natural beauty & architectural marvels? Shravanbelagola is such place which is primarily a popular jain pilgrimage in South India but also a place which offers very special experience for folks visiting this part of Karnataka state of India.

When you start reading about Angkor Wat on internet, it's overwhelming and at times, it's hard to relate to the scale we are talking about. Certainly it's hard to explain in words or even with photographs, but I would try my best to share what I experiences while in Siem Reap city of Cambodia to explore the famous Angkor Wat World Heritage Site.

When you are in a foreign country and are prone to homesickness, like I am, where you opt to stay makes a whole lot of difference. As travellers, we tend to experiment with a variety of stay options. We have tried everything from 5-star hotels to OYO Rooms to very basic homestays. While we tend to enjoy homestays a lot, at times, a bit of luxury is food for the soul. This is exactly what Chateau D'Angkor La Residence turned out to be.

Whenever you plan for Cambodia and visit in Angkor Wat, Ta Prohm is one of the most important temples in this World Heritage site. As we shared in our last post, there are different categories of tickets which allow you to explore Angkor wat Heritage site in a day, 3 days or a week. Irrespective of the ticket you have bought, it's highly recommended to visit Ta Prohm and appreciate it grandness and how the giant trees have converted some of it structures into ruins.

Phnom Penh night market, though a popular tourist spot, can be quite disappointing for some people. So if you are tight on time, and are anyways planning to visit Siem Reap, you can choose to give this a miss.

This was my 7th visit to San Francisco area and almost every time, I thought of visiting Muir Woods but couldn’t plan. Thanks Jacek, who planned weekend visit to Muir Woods along with a small hike to Mount Tamalpais. After beautiful drive around Mt Tamalpais and quick hike, we headed towards Muir Woods National Monument. This post shares about our experience, some extremely important tips and what do avoid if you want to make best of your visit.

We loved Cambodia as a country and found it very Tourism friendly. Cambodia has different kinds of things to do and explore. Siem Reap is most popular because of Angkor Wat, which is largest Hindu temple in the world and one of the most popular UNESCO World Heritage site. Phnom Penh being the capital city of Cambodia becomes another important city in Cambodia and apart from that, other main cities to visit & explore are - Banlung, Kampot, Sihanoukville, Koh Ker, Battambang etc. In this post, we will some of the cheapest, convenient and time efficient options to commute between the cities.

Just like the stationary items, by the end of the day, we too were back at where we had started. It was time to get off the boat and head back to the glitter of Siem Reap. If you ask me about Tonle Sap, I would say that this is a place that could be much more beautiful, if the Cambodian Government would invest a little in its maintenance and upkeep.

Interestingly I never believed in this Top 10 thing but while I was travelling in Thailand, I was searching such posts for different place. Certainly I consulted multiple blogs to decide what aligns with my interests but I found it useful. Through this post, I am going to share about main things to visit in Chiang, activities to do, why Chiang May is great place for shopping, Currency exchange tips, tips for cheap commute within & around the city etc. This post shares lot of Travel Hacks for travelers and backpackers visiting this beautiful city in North Thailand.

One of the best aspects of our trip to Thailand was the amount of walking we did while we were there. You have already read about our adventures on foot in Chiang Mai. Ayuthhaya was the same, only a couple of notches up. On our first day here, we walked about 10 km and about 7 of those in the afternoon, when we explored the Wats in the UNESCO World Heritage Site - the Heritage City of Ayuthhaya. And that afternoon walk is the topic of this blog post.

To be honest, we started planning for our Christmas vacations very late. This is the peak tourist season and if you start planning in the mid of November, you are less likely to get good deals. However, we still managed to plan a 10-day trip to Thailand and complete it within our budget of Rs. 1.25L, including airfare and stay. Needless to say, we are very proud of ourselves, especially because of the trip was adventurous as well as relaxing. In fact, we were quite sad when the trip drew to an end and didn't feel like coming back. Wish vacations could last forever!

For Day 6, we had booked a snorkeling tour to Phi Phi Islands. We were supposed to be picked up from our hotel, La Thalassa, at 7 am, so woke up at 6, had breakfast at 6:30, and were waiting outside our hotel at 5 minutes to 7. However, by 8:30, our van had still not arrived. We kept calling the lady with whom we had booked the tour and she kept asking us to wait as the bus was on its way. We were ready to give up and head to her shop to ask for a refund, when the bus arrived. It was close to 9AM by now and we were angry. Cherry on top was that we couldn't find seats together. VJ sat with the driver, while I found a seat in the cabin behind. As you can understand, we were in a very bad mood by now.

While driving around San Jose and Cartago towns of Costa Rica, if I have to tell you the most beautiful architectural piece - that would be Basilica of Los Angeles and this was most special place for us in Cartago city.

When we read about popular beaches in Costa Rica, Jaco town would pop-up and when we were in San Jose, we noticed various things which indicated that planning a day trip from San Jose to Jaco is easy. On top of that our guide offered us a great deal to take us in his own car at a very reasonable price. This blogpost shares more about how to reach Jako town from San Jose or other surrounding cities of Costa Rica, main places to visit around Jaco Town and things to do, along with some tips to save money and make best of your visit Jaco town of Costa Rica.

I have been visiting Dalhousie almost every year for last 6 years now and have spent significant time walking around Dalhousie town & Dalhousie Public School. Over the years I have seen one of the section of DPS growing very well. Let me put it in other way - Dalhousie Public School has been investing heavily in improving infrastructure every year. Apart from School infrastructure, school authorities spend significant time and energy in maintain this whole hill where this school is located. Over the years, school has developed an area which is called Beeji's Park. Related Blogpost : 8 Days road trip to 4 main Hill stations in Himachal Pradesh

Recently we have been sharing about beautiful temples of Ayutthaya which is UNESCO World Heritage city in Thailand with hundreds of temples spread across the town. Today we shall share about another wonderful place which is in open space. It's a wonderful & huge state of reclining Buddha. This place is little away from Wat Phra Mahathat. It's a lot of walk, which we did but for going back we wanted to have a tuktuk. This Blogpost shares a lot more about Wat Lokayasutharam, how to reach there, some interesting facts, & tips to make best of the visit to Wat Lokayasutharam.

Orosi valley is one of the most beautiful, yet fairly untouched, region of Costa Rica. Barely 30 kilometers from the capital city San Jose, it is a miracle that this valley remains so pristine and the settlements so quaint. Surrounded by volcanos, hills, and lush green forests, the valley is the ideal place to stay for a few days and just walk around, especially if you have time on your hands. The valley is also a popular spot for birders because of the huge variety of birds that live here. With so many habitats merging, you see flycatchers, parrots, tanagers, hummingbirds, three-wattled bellbirds, motmots and what not. Moreover the city of Cartago, which is built in the Orosi valley is steeped in history. A Spanish colonial past gives Orosi valley a rich historical heritage, of which the three churches that we are going to talk about today, stand out. These buildings, each unique in its own way, give the city and valley a unique character. You will see the buildings if you choose to take the Orosi valley tour from the San Jose city. But be careful to research the prices. Because of so many tour operators and websites offering these packages, it is easy to end up choosing something expensive. You will then end up with a feeling of having been taken for a ride - literally as well as figuratively. Anyways, coming back to the first church that we visited - Colonial Church of Orosi - it is a small and most inconspicuous building in the Orosi Valley. At one glance, you will never guess that the building is about 250 years old. In fact it is one of the oldest buildings of Costa Rica and a symbol of the country's Spanish colonial past. The Colonial Church was built in 1767 and was designated a National Monument in the year 1985. This is also the place where the museum of religious arts is currently located. The Church has been restored twice in 1976 and 1980 and the current structure, as it stands, is simple yet pretty and is surrounded by a small lawn with some lovely flowers. When we got here, the church itself was locked, but there were two really friendly dogs around. For some reason, of the four people present they chose to hang out with me. One of them had a heart-shaped black spot on one side. I tried but could not get a picture. Do watch out for these dogs when you visit this church. They are adorable. Anyways, our guide managed to contact someone and that person was able to get the church open for us. It felt quite awesome. The second church we visited was the Basilica of Our Lady of the Angels. This Church is located in Cartago and is a much more imposing building when compared to the Colonial Church. This Church was built in the year 1639 and was partially destroyed by an earthquake. It was restored in 1939. The current building combines colonial and Byzantine architecture. Not only is this church quite beautiful, it is also home to beautiful Crimson-Fronted Parakeets. These birds are easy to identify because of the measles-like red spots on its face. These parrots are social creatures and like to live around human habitats and forest edges. However, they cannot tolerate being disturbed too much. The last church we saw was just in passing from our car. Though these appear to be ruins of a church, it is actually a case of abandoned construction. The structure is known as Ruinas de Cartago, which I am pretty certain translates to Ruins of Cartago. Even though the building is incomplete and is decaying, it is beatiful in a melancholic way. In fact, I absolutely loved the look of it. Of these three churches, I absolutely loved Ruinas de Cartago. But the other two, too, are beautiful. What is amazing is that all of these buildings have their unique characters and are so different from one another that you should definitely visit all three when you visit Cartago and Orosi Valley. It will be worth it.

Recently we were in Gujrat to witness the Navratri celebrations in various Garba grounds of Ahemdabad and Vadodara. It was a long weekend, so we took out time to spend 4 days in Gujrat and also explore nearby places in this beautiful & progressive state of India. During this trip we used Ola Outstation cab twice - once for one day trip from Ahemedabad to Adlaj ni Vav, Modhera Sun Temple, Patan's popular Rani no Vav and GandhiNagar's famous AksharmDham temple & Mahatma Temple. Second time, we used Ola Outstation to go from Ahemdabad to Vadodara via ASI heritage site in Lothal and second day drive to Statue of Unity & then came back to Ahmedabad for our flight back.

A visit to Museo Camera, a museum dedicated to the history of cameras and photography, was long pending. Ever since it opened in the beginning of this year, VJ and I had talked often about it. Museo Camera, India's first not-for-profit, crowd-funded Center for Photographic Art, is an inspiring story in itself. Aditya Arya's years of hard work, dedication, and passion to the field of photography have culminated in the creation of this magical space. The museum, earlier located in the basement of Aditya Arya's home, has now shifted to this beautiful building that is a fine specimen of strong, industrial architecture. Built around a mesh of sturdy, exposed iron beams, the museum is a sight to behold. And we have not even started talking about the content yet. Located in one of the prime addresses of Gurgaon, DLF Phase 4, Museo Camera houses over 1500 cameras and 100s of other photography equipment such as apertures, light meters, artificial lighting equipment from various eras and was created through citizen funding. One of the most remarkable galleries in the museum is the one that covers the history of photography spanning across more than 200 years and a history of cameras. The gallery starts with a prototype of Camera Obscura. The word Camera Obscura is latin and literally means the dark room. Mr Arya told us the that the word Camera was earlier spelled with a "K". So it was "Kamera". The urdu word "kamra" probably has the same origin. Languages are really interesting, aren't they? Anyhow, the original Camera Obscura used to be as large as a room. The one in the Museum is a small box just to demonstrate how the original equipment used to work. Basically the basis is a natural optical phenomenon known as the pinhole image. When a scene outside a tent or a wall is projected on the otherside through a small opening, it appears reversed. This kind of a projection was earlier used for creating sketches and to study solar eclipse without damaging the eyes. Then you come across the founding fathers of photography - Nicéphore Niépce, Louis-Jacques Mandé Daguerre, Sir John Hershel, and Louis Daguerre. You start with how Niepce created the first photograph and then learn about Dagerreotype, the photography technique created by Louis-Jacques Mande Daguerre. You find out how photography was so named, and then how the art of creating negatives was developed to ensure that photographs could be reproduced. You walk along a huge wall that talks about the history of photography and the major contributors. Not only do you learn about the dates and pioneering companies such as Kodak, you also see several original photographs clicked by some very old cameras. You find out about photographers who have made significant contributions to the world of photography. If you look closely, you will also find treasures such as original old advertisements and how they have evolved. You come across cameras of various shapes and sizes. You also see a hint of how studios were set up earlier. Another interesting fact that Mr Arya shared with us was about the portraits that were clicked during Victorian times. Mr. Arya has sourced them from auctions, flea markets, etc over the years. If you have seen some of these portraits you would notice the lack of smiles and a passive expression in the subjects. The reason for that was that at those times, since aperture was very small, the exposure needed to be larger and as a result slightest of movements would blur the images. Therefore subjects were asked to strike a natural pose that would be easy to hold for 15 seconds or so. The ground floor houses this interesting gallery and a shop from where you can buy mementos. There's also a cafe, called "fig at museo" that serves some delicious looking food, which we were unfortunately not able to sample today. But it looks like a cool and relaxed space. The first floor houses exhibition halls where currently the Aravalli series is on display. Photographers can rent the space for their exhibitions here. It is a fairly large space and the infrastructure too is good. The place also gets good footfall from the right kind of audience. The second floor has a classroom/conference hall where one can organize workshops or talks or other events. Apparently, there are four such spaces in the building. There's also a small library here where you can sit and read. You cannot rent out the books yet. That is still being figured out. In this space, amateur photographers can also put their work up for display and even sell it to walk-in customers. Apart from this all, there's an amazing sign here that says "Photography is strictly allowed". It is such a warm and friendly place. Coming to the ticketing aspect of it, you need to pay Rs 200 per person, unless you are a founding member. We became founding members during the initial rounds of crowd sourcing. You can still become one. The information is available at the front desk. Mr Aditya Arya has always been an inspiring person for us. We have followed his journey as a photographer very closely. Apart from that, we also visited his farm in the Aravallis where he has built a stone cottage all by himself. He was also at the helm of the Aravalli exhibition that was an attempt to put forth the plight of the Aravalli Ecosystem. And now Museo Camera. Mr Arya says that he is always working on something in parallel that may convert into something substantial in the long run. I think that is what sets him apart. And that is what makes him a visionary. MUSEO CAMERA Shri Ganesh Mandir Marg, DLF Phase IV, Sector 28, Gurugram, Haryana 122002 Gurgaon, Haryana 122001 M: +91 8287814216

If your tea intake in more than usual, keep some time for that as well :). I couldn't do much research, but I am sure there would be resorts or places to stay nearby so that you spend one night around the place and don't rush through the day. Anyways, our plan to visit Living root bridge as well as Dauki.

At different moments I felt differently about the app and I was try to share why I believe that this may be just another app which provide some instant effects, although Adobe's brand and Adobe's real power of applying smart-tools may differentiate this app from others in longer terms. We can just make guesses and time will tell how this app does in longer run. Let's try to understand what all it offers today and who may be target users of this app?

Rakshabandhan was a good reason to visit my sister in Dalhousie and meet Urvi. During one of the days, we planned an outing to Khajjiar . All photographs shared in this Photo Journey are from beautiful Khajjiar, which is also known as mini Switzerland of India. We planned to take bus from Dalhousie at 9:30am which drop you at Khajjiar at around 10:15am. Urvi was not happy with the ride, but most of the times she was busy in showing things to me. Initially plan to hire a taxi and visit Chamba after Khajjiar, but then we realized that it will be too much for a day. So most of the day was spent at Khajjiar only. We walked around the lush green meadows of Khajjiar. Met rabbits, sheep, cows on our way from one side of Khajjiar lake to other. Urvi was very happy seeing Rabbits and sheep, but cows were dirty & they hadn't taken taken bath that day :). This was Urvi's best place to sit in Khajjiar and enjoyed sheep grazing and fighting with each other. At times she was doing commentary on how sheep and cows were moving from one part of the meadows to the other. We had our lunch at HPTDC hotel. It was an off season for them in August, so the restaurant was empty. They served good food. We played a lot, walked tirelessly and then headed back towards road to catch the bus for Dalhousie. After Urvi reached home, she said that next time we will not go in bus - 'ham tuk-tuk vali bus mein nahin jayenge' :). It was a day well spent with Urvi and Khajjiar is definitely a great for day outing with kids. Now there are some arrangements for kids to enjoy. We also realized that we could have taken some of teh Urvi's toys with us. Wish to plan another such outing soon and with better planning.

9 years back when I moved to Delhi from Himachal, I took holidays to celebrate Lohri with my family in Himachal Pradesh. Initially I was surprised that office has no holiday on Lohri and none of the other folks were very excited about this festival of India. While leaving for home, I was wishing Lohri to everyone. During this one of my colleague smiled and asked about things we do on Lohri. He was from Uttar Pradesh state of India and had hardly celebrated this festival. Then I realized that how important this festival is for Pubjabis and surrounding regions. So this festival is very popular in Punjab, Himachal and some parts of Delhi. Irrespective of the fact that many of the Indians don't celebrate the festival, I would like to wish everyone a Very Happy Lohri.Lohri is one of the popular India festival which is mainly celebrated by Punjabi community of the country and particularly by Sikhs and Hindus.Supposedly there are various origins of Lohri. Today when we were talking about the festival on lunch table, none of us was aware of the origin of Lohri and why is it celebrated with so much fun. The main thing about Lohri is about belief that festival is the cultural celebration of the winter solstice. People come out of their houses during late evening and celebrate the festival around bonfire. For some folks bonfire is about adding fun to the celebration while some have a religious meaning, perhaps..Lohri is a fun filled festivity which is celebrated in the month of January for a good harvest that carries cultural and traditional significance. To celebrate this festival, bonfire is arranged in almost every street. Every family comes out with snacks to eat along with peanuts, revri, gachak etc. Earlier people used to tell stories around this bonfire which has changed over time. Now it's more about music, punjabi dhol and sing 'lohris'. Usually people spend whole night around this bonfire, while some of the folks have fun for few hours and go inside their cozy homes. It's a very interesting festival which offers lot of fun with friends and family. In rural India, the festival starts 8 days before. Kids make small groups and each group either has boys or girls. Although with time, mixed groups are also encouraged if the group sings both types of Lohris. There are different Lohris for boys as well as girls. So all these groups start visiting the neighborhood 8 days before the main festivity. They go to each doorstep, sing Lohri and get back some gifts in form of sweets, money or local grain. I have enjoyed doing all this in my childhood with friends. We used to collect good amount of cash to sponsor new games for our local clubs and it used to be the time to upgrade different gadgets. Sale of firwood, Peanuts, jaggery projects & other sweets made up of 'til'. During the same time, other states of India and communities celebrate it in different ways. Happy Lohri !

Few weeks back one of my friends pinged me over Facebook to ask if I can join in one of his Photography Trip during Holi. Idea was to join the group of Photographers and help them utilize the basic techniques of Photography. And when it comes to learning and travel, I am always ready. Leading a group of enthusiastic explorers and Photographers is a very good learning experience and, hence, I agreed to join the gang for Hola Mohalla 2014. This Photo Journey shares some moments from the visit to Hola Mohalla, an event that occurs every year at Anandpur Saheb, Punjab (India). We started from Delhi on 16th March at 7am in a Tempo Traveller. Ramit from 'Delhi by Foot' shared some quick facts about Hola Mohalla & its history. It was quite useful to know the background and why this event is called 'Hola Mohalla'. Here is a summary -- Sikh Guru Gobind Singh founded Khalsa at Anandpur Saheb and he asked for 5 volunteers to lead. These 5 leaders are popularly known as 'Panj Pyare'. Hola Mohalla isn't related to Holi at all, and therefore colors are hardly used here. However every year it is celebrated on same day. After a quick introduction to the place by Ramit, most of us chose to take a nap till we arrived at a place to have brunch. After a while, Roli started a conversation about photography basics. We were mainly talking about different shooting modes in DSLRs and what should be used when & associated subjectivity of choice. Apart from Photography we touched upon Softwares & Literature as well :). Jona also heard some of our conversations and planned to join us. By this time, most of the folks were sleeping. After driving for a few hours, we hit Ambala and stopped for a break. We took a 45 minutes break here and enjoyed tandoori paranthas and some pakoras with tea. It was time to refill fuel tank and move ahead towards our destination, Anandpur Saheb. We bypassed Chandigarh and took the shortcut which hits Kharar via Greater Mohali area. Roads near Anandpur town were badly jammed with trucks, karts, buses, cars & bikes. It seemed that whole of Punjab has come to the town for Hola Mohalla Fair. We had to spend approximately an hour in this traffic jam and then we got to know that Punjab chief minister was visiting, which was the main reason for stopping the incoming traffic. We had booked a hotel called 'Simran' with very basic facilities. It seems that Anadpur Saheb had only a handful of hotels because during normal time, one can stay in Gurudwara. Guradwara has sufficient arrangements to accommodate hundreds of folks at any point in time. So there is not much demand for hotels in Anandpur Saheb. The streets were full of people and there were tens and thousands of Sikhs there. After having some rest at the hotel, all of us headed towards to the ground where Nihang Warriors were showcasing their skills to public. We encountered few langars on the way, where Jalebi, Pakoras and food was being served. Before hitting the main ground, we thought of having something at the Langar. We had to put off our shoes before entering into the langar areas and also got to know that everyone of us needed to cover our heads. Everyone had something to cover the head except me and Madhu. There were various shops nearby to buy stuff, Initially it looked quite odd and lot of questions were coming to my mind. I was not able to relate to things which were communicated by leaders on stage and I was wondering about existence of such community in country like India. I was not able to control myself and thought of talking to the Nihang singhs sitting around the corner of main stage. Asked various questions and the way he replied made me feel a bit relieved. Especially when I asked - 'Are you ever tempted to use your weapon wielding skills when you get angry or not in right state of mind', he replied this in detail. It seems that training grounds are there in almost every town where Sikhs are living. They go to these training centers called as Akharas and before the actual training starts, each of them is trained by Jathedar (leader/coach) about ethics of using these weapons and related skills. As a basic principle, no one of them can use these weapons without permission of their guru, except one of the situations. And another thing is that using these weapons for personal use is restricted. If someone is found using the skills and weapons in undesired way, the community has defined appropriate punishment. More than all these details, I loved the way this guy was explaining all these things to me. Now I was confident that all this is happening for some reasons which this community experiences over time and it;s harmless for overall Eco-system. In fact, I found this a very good way to be united and teach youth about some of the religious values. Whole evening was full of action, music, poets and Khalsa stories. Some parts were boring, but overall the action filled activities by different groups from various parts of the country were definitely worth experiencing. Some of their leaders and sponsors had come for Hola mohalla from different countries. Apart from demonstrating these skills, few other games are organized during these two days of Hola Mohalla. We had also planned to go for Kabaddi & kho-kho but couldn't find time for that. It seems polo is also played in one of the grounds in Anadpur Saheb during Hola Mohalla. All these events keep happening throughout the night. Some of us moved for dinner at around 9pm and also left at around 10:30pm. Again we preferred to have dinner at Langars only. After dinner, we moved towards Anandpur Saheb market which was full of people moving towards main Gurudwara. We couldn't visit the Gurudwara during these two days because there was significant waiting time involved to reach inside and we were only there for a very short while. We found a sweets shop, had some besan barfi and moved back to our hotel to have some rest and gear up for the most exciting day - Hola Mohalla. While going back towards the hotel, we noticed that most of the folks around these grounds were sleeping in tempos/trucks they had arrived in. Activities were still on at around 11:30pm and many of the folks were sitting on top of buses & trucks to have a clear view. Next day started with delicious breakfast at hotel and then we moved towards Gurudwara campus where various processions go from main Gurudwara to Sheeshganj Gurudwara. While going towards Gurudwara, Ramit took us to a ground full of swings and maut-ka-kuan. All of us watached Maut-ka-Kuan show, which was awesome. Some of us chose to have some snacks and then we moved towards Gurudwara. It was very crowded and at times it was getting difficult to move.Smoking and drinking is strictly prohibited in Anandpur saheb and there is no liquor shop in this town, but bhang was available at every 100 meters in different forms. We kept walking and it was hot outside. There was hardly any action in the market before noon. There were lots of people but hardly anything was happening. Processions were yet to start. Some of us were tired and wanted to get under shade. We chose to have lunch and take some rest.It was quite an experience to walk around these markets in Hola Mohalla fair. While walking around the streets, I observed a very interesting thing. The foreground, where all groups had to gather was occupied by significant numbers of bikes. There were 6-8 policemen who had to ensure that ground gets empty soon to avoid chaotic situation. One of the policemen approached boys and requested them to do some 'seva' by moving these bikes on one side of the road to create a queue. And it was amazing to see a group of 15-20 young boys clearing the space in few minutes. I was super impressed with this act by youth at Hola Mohalla. Then we thought of moving towards the main ground where Hola Mohalla is celebrated in presence of all Nihang singhs and folks from different parts of the country. The above photograph gives a quick glimpse of the main ground where Hola Mohalla is celebrated. This was less than 1% of the crowd around this ground. Folks were settling down and there was not much action when we reached main ground. Still people were coming in and real action was yet to start. Some of the Nihang groups were performing in the middle of this huge ground. I was a bit disappointed by the fact that performances were hardly visible to people sitting on surrounding hills, because many of the folks including media & photographers had surrounded these performers from all the sides. I am sure that folks sitting at a distance would have major difficulties in watching the action happening on ground. Some of the bikers started showing stunts on Hola Mohalla ground znow horses, camels, elephants had started coming in. Final evening on the day of Holi festival is considered as main Hola Mohalla, when real action happens. Horse ride is one of the popular sport of Hola Mohalla. Some of the folks were riding on 4 horses as well. During this race, grass bundles are put in the middle of the ground and these riders have to pick a bundle with a stick when they were racing at a very high speed. It was crazy to see that people had created a narrow lane around the place where these horses run. There is no boundary defined for this race, which means that horses can easily hit folks standing on both sides. Initially I was very uncomfortable going to the front and some photographs and then Ramit encouraged me to go & experience something very special. During this many people step over each other and situation may get chaotic and everything during this time happens instantaneously. This Holi was the most unique one for me. And Hola Mohalla is an event worth experiencing at least once. The warmth and large-heartedness of Sikhs shines through the frenzied activities and unbelievable crowds. A visit to Hola Mohalla can help in getting to know the Sikh culture more closely. Thanks for Ramit, Delhi by Foot & all participants for great company during this exploration !

After our Baramati visit, we came back to pune and had 3 days in hand. It was amazing to know about plenty of weekend destinations around Pune, but it made difficult for us to decide on 1-2 of the destinations we could plan for. A day trip to Lonavala & Khandala was something that we planned on day one. This Photo Journey shares more about this one-day road-trip to Lonavala & Khandala from Pune. When we were deciding one-day destinations around Pune, we had a very long list and with time, it was getting difficult to decide. We hadn't enough time to go through blogs and decide the best options as per our taste of travel. Lonavala was most familiar name in the list and it was easily approachable through Pune-Mumbai highway. So we chose to drive to Lonavala and explore this part of Maharashtra state. So picked car of our cousin, who stays there in Pune and moved towards Lonavala. We started from Pune and followed Pune-Mumbai highway till the point which tells you to take left for Lonavala. Above photograph shows the exact point where we took this left to hit Lonavala.Just taking this left from the highway, we stopped at one of the shops to know what exactly is there in Lonavala and where should we go now :). I know that it sounds odd that we were not even sure that what we would be doing in Lonavala. Somehow we had no clue till we talked to the shopkeeper. And the response from other side way - 'There is hardly anything in Lonavala, especially in the month of Feb, During Monsoons you can see hundreds of waterfalls all around the hills of Lonavala'. This was quite disappointing and after a short chit-chat, we were wondering if we should spend more time around this town or drive towards Mumbai. After a quick thought we thought of going towards the hilly part of Lonavala which was 20 kilometers from main town. After few kilometers of drive, we reached on top of hills which were looking beautiful from Pune-Mumbai highway. These hills of Lonavala was quite different with hundreds of marks of waterfalls, which were inactive during winters.Soon after we hit a picnic spot called Tiger-Point, which was a typical point which are marketed very well in most of the tourist destinations :There was a huge parking space on roadside, with few stalls around the corners, camels and few other things to keep tourists engaged. We also thought of parking and see what's there. Various groups were sitting around the other side of this parking lot. As we moved towards these groups, we realized that other side of this hill had huge valley full of different elevations making beautiful formations. This was one of the views from Tiger-point around these hills in Lonavala. Although I am not sure if this part is also considered in Lonavala or not. These views were breathtaking and I had never seen something like this.Tiger's Point is a cliff-top with a sudden drop of over 700 meters giving an amazing view of relatively lower hills spread over a huge area around Lonavala. It seems that buses for Tiger and Lion points are available to this place from Lonavala town. I also noticed few Auto-Rickshaws coming to this place from main town. It seems that during Monsoons, the view from Tiger's point is phenomenal with lot of waterfalls. During monsoons, tourists prefer to sit around these waterfalls instead of Bushy dam which comes on the way to Tiger point from Lonavala Town. The place around Bushy dam didn't seem that exciting so we skipped stopping there. One needs to park the car on road-side and need to walks for few minutes to hit Bushy Dam. Just next to Tiger Point, there is another point called Lion point. I didn't understand of point of these two different tourist spots nearby and didn't even bother to figure out. The only thing on my mind was the location on other side of this hills, the amazing views of gorges all around. After spending some time around these hills, we planned to drive towards Ambey Valley, which is 20 kilometers away from Tiger Point. When we asked folks at Tiger Point, they described Ambey Valley as a place where you can find big houses and villas of all Bollywood actors and big personalities of India. Since we had some time in hand, we thought of driving till Sahara City in Ambey Valley. I will be sharing a separate Photo Journey from Ambey Valley, which is a city developed by Sahara and has a private Airport as well. Lonavala is a town and a hill station is part of Pune district only. It takes around 1.5 hrs to reach Lonavala from Pune. It is located around 55 kilometers from Pimple Saudagar part of Pune city. and Mumbai from here is around 90 kilometers away.Lonavala is known for its production of the hard candy known as chikki and Chocolate fudge. It's one of the major stations on the rail line connecting Mumbai and Pune. Both the Mumbai-Pune Expressway as well as the Mumbai-Chennai highway pass through Lonavla. We explored both these highways and opted for the other route while going back.Having tea while travelling is a very special experience and a short conversation with Tea-stal owners makes it special. You get to know a lot about the place, culture and local things. We had few cups of tea and some maggie at this shop which is located around a Shiva temple which comes on the way from Lonavala to Ambey Valley in Maharshtra. The Journey of our day didn't end here. After a quick drive to Ambey Valley, we moved back to Loanavala Town and then Khandala. I shall be sharing the next part of the Journey in upcoming post

Mukteshwar is located in Uttrakhand state of India and Chauli ki Jali is very exciting place for adventure lovers. I also had an exceptional experience of rock climbing at same place 5 years back. We were in Mukteshwar for a weekend trip and got to know about a place which has a huge rock standing still on a hill and facing a deep valley. It was called as Chauli ki Jali, which looks awesome Mukteshwar temple. We walked to the place and first tried rappelling at a relatively easy place. Although it took time for most of us to hold the rope and starting going down with right technique. Some of us got hurt as well, but our enthusiasm was at peak. After a while, one of us also showed interest to do rock climbing even when the place was pretty scary. One of our friend Gaurav did it after some struggle and I also thought of trying it.After taking 3-4 steps upwards, my legs were shaking. And let me share that it was 4th time that I was doing rock climbing. Before that I had done in Spiti , Malana and Great National Himalayan park in Kullu. It took approximately 10 minutes for me to settle down and move up. There was a time when I was feeling that I would not be to able to complete it and how to even go down. Thanks to all my friends for encouraging me and finally I could finish it. It remained as one of the memorable moments from our Mukteshwar trip. After this wondering experience, we waited for sunset and had a lovely evening around these beautiful hues of Mukteshar. If you plan to visit Mukteshwar, one of the main things to do around the place is rock climbing experience at Chauli ki Jali.

I have been to Jim Corbett 5 times, although I never saw tiger there :). During all my visits to Jim Corebett, I stayed in different resorts and today sharing some of the old photographs from my favorite place so far. This Photo Journey shares about Welcome Heritage Corbett Ramganga resort and more.It was our annual office trip and we reached this resort early in the morning after overnight journey in Volvo from Delhi. This place is located around Ramganga river. This resort has huge space surrounded by green trees, colorful birds and lot of flora & fauna. There are different sorts of cottages, rooms and suites in this resort. Nicely maintained rooms and facilities. We spent 2 days in this resort and it was an awesome experience for most of us. During these 2 days, we also planned one safari inside Jim Corbett National Park.I loved these huts in woods. This resort has huge area and some part of it is well covered with trees and varied plantations. This place is away from hustle bustle of the town. Main town is full of resorts, while this one is away from main road and no other resort or hotel around this place. The resort is located at stunning location right between valleys and ramganga river. Very peaceful and mesmerizing. It's near marchulla and even the roads leading to resort give you feeling that something is special in its location. We had a fantastic time staying at Ramganga resort. I have never had such fresh n well made food in a hotel. We used to eat like crazy, and none of us complained of any sort of gastric problems. The hotel staff was very courteous. Some of the folks in our group felt that cottages lacked a bit of privacy.Early morning time was such a pleasant experience in this resort, waking up, to the sound of water n birds chirping. Dew on the flowers make their gardenThe staff here are amazing set of people who are really helpful and not the ones who head to please only the foreign tourists. Since we were there in a group, the package we got from the hotel was decent and didnt make us feel that they were overpriced. This place isway too far from the Corbett entrances and you need to do lot of driving to get to things. For some folks it's a drawback and for other it makes the place peaceful.
During evening, they arranged bon-fire with live music by a local band. These folks were awesome. They also allow DJ during the night if requested by groups.I enjoyed walking around this place and clicked lot of colorful flowers.

After a long time, I planned to do another workshop on Adobe Photoshop Lightroom with Delhi Photography Club in Shahpur Jat, Delhi. Founder of DPC, Mr Virendra Singh Shekhawat connected with me & encouraged me to plan one in Delhi again. I couldn't plan it in Jan, because of various commitments in office and at home. Finally we did one this weekend. Delhi Photography Club has this brilliant office in Shahpur Jat and place is created very thoughtfully by Virendra and Team. Taking a Lightroom workshop at such place was definitely a very good break from routine life and all these workshops offer to lot of learnings. Yes, you read it right - I learn a lot while teaching Adobe Photoshop Lightroom to like minded Photographers. I really enjoy these workshops and during this 2 days workshop, I didn't even take any break. I realized it laters :). And I would want to add that participants of this workshop were awesome. Some of the folks were already using Adobe Photoshop Lightroom for editing their photographers and few of them had used Photoshop. But majority of them were not using any software to organize or edit the photographs. Apart from Photoshop, Picasa is one of the most popular software amongst the participants and I wonder why? Picasa is definitely not for this set of photographers. It was quite an interactive workshop wherein participants asked lot of questions and I could address most of them. Although there were few questions which were not answered completely at the end, due to lack of time. During 2 days, we majorly talked about Library and Develop modules - essentially the ways of managing photographs and different editing controls. Folks from different walks of life joined this workshop. For most of them Photography is not a medium of earning their bread and butter, but it's a serious hobby. There were few, who are doing photography professionally. Most of the folks were carrying their laptops and hence, there were lot of questions after trying things we discussed in the workshop. Some of the questions were relevant to all while few of them were not. Most of these were taken up between the session and few of them were addressed separately with individuals. This group was pretty fast in picking up things and hence we could cover a bit more than usually we do in this 2 days workshop. During this workshop, we talked about Catalogs, Collections, import, managing metadata, watermarking, smart collections, keyword tags, search capabilities on the basis of inbuilt/IPTC metadata, presets for metadata & editing, snapshots, history, smart previews, editing controls like - Exposure, Contrast, Highlight, Shadows, white, blacks, clarity, vibrance, saturation, HSL, Black & White processing, Lens correction, handling luminance and color noise, reducing chromatic aberration, vignetting, Spot healing, cropping, straightening, graduated filter and lot more.Things like importance of Raw files and Histogram was also discussed. Basics of color profiles & file formats to be used in Export were also discussed. Backing up images and Lightroom catalogs was one of the important aspects. There were few discussions about importance of single vs multiple catalogs. The ways to import from one catalog to another was a primary question when everyone realized that single catalog is brilliant way to manage all the photographs. Although some of them wanted to try different catalogs for different genres of photography.Check out the vibrant walls of Delhi Photography Club. I am in love with this place after this workshop and hope to visit them frequently during weekends and probably their Photo-walks as well.A day very well spent with Indian Lightroomers !

This summer Vibha was given the responsibility to finalize the place & do hotel bookings. She did great job at finalzing the place, doing hotel bookings and organizing a brilliant family trip to Binsar in Uttrakhand. Nishant planned the commute part. Almost everyone in family contributed to great planning except the photographer :). The journey started from Delhi at 1:30am on thursday. We booked a Tempo Traveller for comfortable journey.

This weekend started well with another workshop on Adobe Photoshop Lightroom. It was my second workshop with DPC and thoroughly enjoyed varied conversations with creative Photographers from different walks of life. This time, it was a one day workshop where all the participants learned the basics of managing photographs and editing.Workshop started at 11am and we started with quick round of introduction, where everyone shared about type of photography they do, their expectations from this workshop, if they used any software in past for editing photographs and other relevant details. I was super excited to see diverse set of Photographers in terms of professions, genre, age, experience etc.The session started with basic understanding of popular Photo management and editing softwares in market, their pros & cons. It's extremely important to understand the goal of each software and which one works best for you. More than that it's important to know how people use these softwares in their workflows and which combination works best for you. Then Gradually moved to introduction of Adobe Photoshop Lightroom, it's workspace, different between JPEG & RAW, Why RAW came into existence, a typical workflow of a photographer at broad level and mapping that with Lightroom. I always find this as a good starting point. Although many of the folks know some basics around these topics, but it's good to share again. Many times this leads to interesting and useful discussions. We proceeded with initial steps of Photographer workflow and understood the importance of metadata & how to manage that in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom. At around 2:10pm, we took our lunch break. Virendra had arranged nice lunch for us. I guess, no one could finish one thali :). Lunch-time was very well used to discuss other aspects of life, photography and office :)Usually idea of this workshop is to introduce photographers to Adobe Photoshop Lightroom & share about it's power of organizing/managing your photographs and editing them. This workshop enabled photographers to start following the right workflow of managing, editing, sharing, Printing & publishing the photographs. Lightroom is comparatively easier software to understand and follow and that's why it's so popular amongst Photography communities now. Before starting editing in Develop module of Adobe Photoshop Lightroom, we discussed about Histogram, how it can be used for editing. Apart from that we also discussed about choosing appropriate files for editing when you have multiple options. Apart from learning the tools, it's more important to know the right usage of these tools and how to avoid over-editing. Also the combinations of editing tools. We did some editing exercises, wherein we tried to visualize the end result and then thought of tools which could help us achieving those results. This was one of the most interesting parts of the workshop.Almost everyone was carrying a laptop to try out things being discussed in the workshop. A saturday well spent with fellow Lightroom and hope that everyone makes best use of this tool.Join community of Indian Lightroomers on facebook - The Indian Lightroomers

Humayun’s Tomb, one of Delhi’s most iconic landmarks, is an architectural masterpiece that reflects the grandeur of the Mughal era. Built in the 16th century, this stunning mausoleum was the first garden-tomb in the Indian subcontinent and served as an inspiration for later Mughal tombs, including the world-famous Taj Mahal.

Whenever there is an opportunity, I am always on the lookout for new breweries to try. Recently, I had the pleasure of visiting the Blue Oak Brewing Company in San Carlos, California, and I must say, it was an outstanding experience.

When it comes to experiencing the true essence of Japanese cuisine in Los Altos, Sumo Japanese Restaurant stands out as a hidden gem. Nestled in the heart of the city, this restaurant offers a delectable menu that showcases the rich flavors and traditional techniques of Japanese cooking.

Here is the awesome group from Sumologic and all of us created brilliant pottery arts. The art-pieces are still in progress and hopefully I will share the final results soon. As of today they are getting dry and some of us want to try colors on them.

Recently I attended one of the most exciting Blogger Meet in Delhi where lot of food and lifestyle bloggers were present to meet THE CHEF Vikas Khanna. This Photo Journey is sharing some experiences of this meet with some interesting facts and photographs. Let's Check out. This Journey started with an Invite for a blogger meet at Blue Frog in New Delhi. Invite said Saffola Masala Oats Blogger Meet with Vikas Khanna. By seeing 'Oats' and someone called 'Vikas Khanna', I had no excitement to go for this meet and somehow I have some bad experiences with Blue Frog as well. But when I asked Travellingcamera Team if someone is interested, everyone was so excited that it became difficult for me to decide upon the person who would join this meet. During evening I met my girlfriend & told her about this and she gave a weird look to me. She says that 'I can understand that you are not excited about stuff related to Oats, but how can you miss this opportunity to meet Vikas Khanna and she expressed her love for him.' Then I decided to got for this event and made sure that my girlfriend doesn't join me :)It was Saturday and I was one of the arly bloggers who reached Blue Frog on time and of-course since Vikas Khanna is big name, he has to be late. Anyways, it was worth waiting for him and during the waiting time I enjoyed eager audience all around who were trying to place themselves strategically. Many of female bloggers were over-excited about this blogger meet and some bloggers were also accompanied by their Moms. Excitement to have first glimpe of Vikas Khanna was at the peak and he appeared on stage very simply. Suddenly whole environment at Blue Frog changed as Vikas Khanna came to the stage. Samyukta introduced the one who didn't need any introduction in front of the audience who were there at Blue Frog. before coming for the event I had also checked few videos which gave me some sense about Vikas Khanna and his international achievements. Vikas Khanna started talking about his life, food and general stuff around food industry. He starting talking in English and then shared that he wants to talk in either Hindi or Punjabi. It was awesome to know his thought, which showed some of the great aspects of his personality. Let me stop here, and talk about the blogger meet as well , where lot of other bloggers interacted & got to know about Masala Oats which are launched by Saffola. Vikas started cooking his first dish on Tinda :) ... He talked a lot about Tinda and Bloggers contributed to different ways of making Tindas. He cooked Bharvan Tinda without pealing off the cover. During this process he also explained that most of the proteins are actually in cover, so he always ensures that we don't miss healthy elements in a dish. While talking about healthy food, he announced a contest where bloggers had to cook a dish out of stuff available with some conditions applies. He asked 6 questions to choose 6 bloggers out of the crowd there. It was interesting to hear some out of the world question and I was wondering that people knew the answers as well. Ekta, Rekha Kakkar, Priyanka Sachar, Faizan & two more girls were selected to come forward and start their dishes. They had 20 minutes to cook and most of them did great job. Unfortunately I wouldn't click photographs of dishes they cooked in 20 minutes. Vikas Khanna Interacted with all contestants who were cooking and got appropriate details about dishes they were making & finally tasted each of those. Above photograph shows Vikas Khanna interacting with Faizan, the only male cook, at Saffola Masala Oats Blogger Meet. After first round of competition, winner was announced and it was Ekta Khetan who won !!! She had cooked something out of Brinjal and Vikas Khanna quite liked that. Faizan was disqualified because of a small mistake that he didn't listen to conditions carefully. Otherwise Vikas Khanna was quite impressed with his style of cooking. During second session Vikas Khanna cooked something which was inspired by Faizan's dish which was cooked at Saffola Msala Oats Blogger Meet.In Parallel a Twitter Contest was going on where Bloggers had to tweet about the event. I was the winner of the Twitter event and won a Wooden Chopping Board which was bit disappointing for me :( ... It was not worth spending time on Mobile while at such a great event with Vikas Khanna. But yes, it was signed by Vikas Khanna. Does that make any difference to me? I don't think so.. But my Girlfriend was again excited about the chopping board signed by Vikas Khanna :)After another cooking round by Vikas Khanna, it was time for another quiz to identity next 6 bloggers who had to cook something with Saffola Masala Oats.So the conversation started like this - Vikas Khanna started talking about Oats and how people think about Oats. Most of the folks relate with Oats as healthy food which is not very exciting and can be consumed as Breakfast. In second dish, Vikas Khanna used Saffola Masala Oats and the same was expected from contestants now. They had to be innovative and creative while cooking something with Saffola Masala Oats.Bloggers cooked Rang biranga Upama and Pizza as well. Pizza finally won the second contest. This was one of the awesomely organized blogger meet and I guess it will be unfair if I miss talking about organizing team. Did I miss talking about snacks & drinks which were served during Saffola Masala Oats Blogger Meet. Above photograph shows our table at Blue Frog where we had fun with awesome snacks.. We had a rocking table with Priyanka Dey, Ekta Khetan & Her Mom.During the event it was great to meet awesome bloggers like Sangeeta Khanna, Rekha Kakkar, Devina, Priyanka Dey, Pawan, Ekta Khetan, Priyanka Sachar, Parul & a long list which will become difficult to mention here.Every Blogger got return gift having different flavors of Saffola Masala Oats and I am yet waiting to open that :)

On 16th of October Fujifilm orgaized their first Blogger meet at Park Hotel in Delhi. Event was specially designed for some of the premier bloggers in the city and had a launch ceremony during the end. Let's check out this Photo Journey to know more about the meet..I took half day leave from office and reached Park Hotel at 2:50pm. Event had to start at 3:00pm. I was the first blogger to reach the venue and stand-up comedian Rajneesh Kappor was there. i had attended one of him performance at India Habitat Center, Lodhi Estate(Delhi). Talked to him and he was more interested in knowing the kind of people coming for the evening. Planned start time 3:00pm in Delhi means that starting will not happen before 3:30pm and there can be delay of 1 Hr. So I had enough time to see Fujifilm Digital Cameras which they had placed on some of the counters around conference hall. Whole hall was full of round tables placed beautifully. Checked some of the Fujifilm Mirrorless cameras and SLRs. I was surprised to see DSLRs Fujifilm had. They had no option to change lenses. All of them had fixed lenses with amazing zoom of about 600mm. At one place I found it bad but looking at mass market, probably this is one of the good approach for home use or amateur photographers.More bloggers started joining on first floor of Park Hotel. Arvind Khanna is trying Mirrorless cameras at Fujifilm Blogger Meet. Fujifilm had great range of mirror-less cameras and I personally liked the results. They created a shooting area with some objects lying under good light. In Poiint-n-shoot, Fujifilm has good range. Anyways, it was time to move ahead and proceed with other parts of event.Bloggers started joining in and it was one of the great moments when you meet fellow who you follow online. Thanks to all such events and we bloggers keep meeting to discuss new ideas & news in detail. While catching up with Bloggers, I noticed one of the familiar faces sitting there. He is there on my Facebook account. After putting some pressure on my mind, I could recall his name and other relevant details :) . Hemant Sood, who is a photographer and popularly known for his fashion work. I had a quick chat with him and it was a nice interaction. He was there to share Fujifilm Camera reviews with bloggers. After a brief chit-chat with fellow blogger over a cup of coffee there was a call for everyone to be seated and start the evening. Fujifilm Marketing folks welcomed all bloggers and shared some interesting facts about Fujifilm and technologies they share with customers or other businesses. During his talks he shared about X series cameras, what is so special about those and Fujinano lenses. Then some bollywood movie-examples were shared which were shot with Fujifilm Lenses. Movies like Dabang & Slumdog Millionaire etc. As the event started, there was an announcement for every blogger to start tweeting about the event & Fujifilm with hash-tag #fujifilmxisin and one of the blogger would win a Fujifilm Camera. Initially I has hesitant about it as I always avoid to use Twitter. I have linked my Twitter account to pick automatic updates from the blog and that's it. After looking around for 5 minutes, I also thought to give it a try. At the time, there was another announcement about being attentive to the details makreting folks were sharing. A quiz was planned after the talk and winners got T-Shirts. I also managed to get one :). Some of the other bloggers on my table got multiple and ours table was winner of-course :) Sangeeta, Arvind and Kriti rocked the show !After a quick quiz Mr Rajneesh Kappor came to the stage. He is a popular standup comedian in Delhi and goes to various parts of country for big comedy shows. He was really good, although I felt that people sitting there were not that supportive :) ... I loved the way he make fun of day to day things and he is awesome with Delhi Jokes :)Most of the bloggers were carrying cameras but I didn't see any Fujifilm camera with any of them. Most of the bloggers were having Nikon or Canon DSLRs. DSLRs and Phone-Cameras are most popular these days. And slowly it's becoming hard to see point-n-shoot cameras. During one of the talks Fujifilm folks also mentioned about the same that Point-n-Shoot market is facing good competition from Smart-Phone CamerasEnvironment all around the conference hall was quite friendly by the end of Rajneesh's session. It was really great and some of the marketing folks in the back were quite involved in whole comedy session. Their laugh was completely different from rest of the halSoon after Rajneesh's performance, Hemant Sood joined us on stage. He shared some great thoughts around Photography and basic tips for bloggers. I must say that he was quite honest about some of the basic facts about photography. I found him quite open about the role of importance of Equipments in Photography. He talked in detail about basic functions of Camera and then kept things open for bloggers to focus more on visuals rather than rules we see on web or books.During the end some celebrity was expected to join and announce the winner of Twitter contest. She came to the stage and it was extremely difficult for me to recognize her. When Fujifilm folks introduced her, then we got to know that she is Minisha LambaAs expected she talked about Fujifilm cameras and winner was declared. @Photojourney_TC was the winner and this is our handle on twitter. Thanks Fujifilm for inviting and liking our tweets.

We had a blogger invite for today and we were not going for it earlier. Then last evening we got a call from a friend that he is coming and we had to pick him from railway station. Both these incidents made me to take a full day off, which was worth. We thoroughly enjoyed the day with blogger friends, Saif Ali Khan, Daboo Ratnani and Aditi Singh Sharma at Kingdom of Dreams in Gurgaon. This Photo Journey shares some moments from this brilliant day.We were late for the event and it was in progress as we entered into Kingdom of Dreams. Aditi Singh Sharma was performing on stage and she sang some beautiful songs for bloggers & media present in the auditorium. Soon after she was done with the performances and it was time for some boring stuff :), which you would know in my next blog-post. Believe me, it would sound interesting in my blog-post, so do check out.Daboo Ratnani was also there and I had very high expectations from his presence, but it was very boring discussion. Meeting him was one of the main reasons for taking an off today from my office. I was little disappointed. He talked about photography with phone cameras but some of the stuff seemed too good to believe. So hope to try out some of the gadgets & technologies he shared and see if all the claims make sense or not. I never prefer to make an opinion and share on this blog on the basis of some discussion or announcements, even if these statements are made by acclaimed celebrities.Saif Ali Khan had dashing entry on the stage. I found him self-conscious about himself on the stage and continuously kept looking at surrounding screens to ensure that he is looking fine. Taking out his hands from pocket, ensuring that his jacket is not moving in wrong direction, hairs look fine etc. Keep a watch on the blog for a specific blog-post about the same soon. But you know, he was 'WOW' :) (please recall the way he says 'wow').Just to tell you that event was a launch of a phone and there were great things were to talk about this new phone. How much of that is reality, we will try and share with you. So be tuned about the next post and another hands-on review. And mostly it will be focused about the camera. After all the performances and meetings were over, it was time to catch up with fellow bloggers and have lunch at Culture gully. After having lunch, we explored the book launge inside Kingdom of Dreams and some of the other interesting shops and alleys.Photo clicking sessions were also happening all around. It was great to catch-up with Priyanka, Akanksha, Alka, Arpit and Prashant after a long time. Arpit who is into Wedding Photography is again planning to move into IT profession, which sounded disappointing to me. He does brilliant work and in my opinion, he should continue with his passion. Hope things work in best way for him. Best wishes Arpit !Kingdom of Dreams campus is very beautiful and you feel like clicking lot of photographs. Some of the areas were closed today, we could't explore most of it.Happy bloggers having fun at Kingdom of Dreams, Gurgaon. If you are still wondering about the event and what was the main reason behind this blogger meet, then stay tuned for the next blog post.

She was host of the evening during inauguration of 14th Bharat Rang Mahotsav @ Kamani, Delhi, India !!Anuradha Kapur mentions like - 'Equally significant in the recognition that we are fortunate in our multilingual, multicultural circumstance or condition, so that there is no one theatre that best describes our numerous identities, cultures and histories. No one theatre prescribes our indianness. I trust that the scale of the festival will give rise to complex and sometimes vexed, ideas about identity, nationalism, tradition... 'As per Amal Allana - 'At festivals like Bharat Rang Mahotsav, it not only affords an opportunity to showcase the talent of Indian and Foriegn theatre practitioners but perhaps more importantly, creates a knowledgable, passionate and appreciative audience, that will sustain theatre activity in long run' ..At the same time Sharmila focused on challenges of Theatre and how performing in theatre is different from artists who work in telefilms. Recently when we were in Benaras for Mahindra Kabira Festival, we also got a chance to experience Pt. Shubhendra Rao's sitar performance and through this blogpost we will share about the same. Pt. Shubhendra Rao is a renowned Indian sitar player and music composer. He is known for his exceptional talent and for his contributions to Indian classical music. He is a disciple of the legendary sitar player, Ravi Shankar, and has performed and collaborated with many renowned musicians and music groups around the world.

It was around one year that I had not visited National School of Drama. There was time, when I used to visit this wonderful place in Delhi. Over the period of time, I made lot of friends at NSD. I am huge fan of these theatre artists of NSD, who keep me updated about plays happening in Delhi. One of my theatre friend sent me an sms to share that some great plays are happening during Bharat Rang Mahotsav. Finally I went there during one of the evenings and got a chance to watch Naseeruddin Shah's play Kambakht Bilkul Aurat. This Photo Journey shares some of the photographs clicked at Kamani Auditorium. This play has 3 different stories and solo performances of Manoj Pahwa, Seema Pahwa & Lovleen Mishra. All three actors were brilliant and stories by Ismat Chughtai made the overall show unmatchable. A brilliant set of actors, great story and direction by Naseeruddin Shah - I am sure that you can imagine the level of this play. And of course, all plays selected for Bharat Rang Mahotsav have their own excellence levels.First story was a solo performance by Manoj Pahwa. Manoj Pahwa is an Indian film and television actor who is noted for his role as Bhatia in the comedy series Office Office. He was in 45 films as a character actor including 7½ Phere (2005), Being Cyrus (2005), Singh Is Kinng (2008), Dabangg 2 (2012) and Jolly LLB (2013).Many of the visitors at Kamani thought that Naseeruddin Shah is also playing a role in this play, but Naseer is director of this play. Loveleen Mishra is best known for her portrayal of Preeti aka Chhutki in India’s first soap, Humlog, which began in 1984 and ended the following year.A college student at the time, Mishra was handpicked to play the avant garde young woman from a middle-class family who aspired to be a doctor. A brilliant performer, Mishra continued working in other TV serials, both as an actor and writer. But she is best known for her roles as an actress and writer in Bollywood films Yuva, Godmother and City of Joy.Every year, Bharat Rang Mahotsav bring this opportunity to see some of the best theatre plays from different parts of the world. After watching the play, I headed towards National School of Drama campus. Campus is decorated during Bharat Rang Mahotsav and this year, Theatre Bazar was setup separately. Very well planned festival !Just after the entry a beautiful seating place was installed under a huge tree. This area was surrounded by colorful walls with photographs of artists who performed in Bharat Rang Mahotsav 2015.I was super impressed to see a Mungfali wala getting equal place amongst the fancy food stalls by some of the popular food-chains in Delhi. I also bought some mungfali from mr Chote lal.During Bharat Rang Mahotsav you can see some of the brilliant bollywood actors who belongs to core Indian Theatre. Above is one of the photographs of Mr Raghubir Yadav. This was clicked from a distance. There were many other known faces around, but I somehow I didn't feel like picking up my camera and click their photigraphs. Many times, such acts propagate others to shoot flashes on these celebrities when they want to enjoy their time with like minded artists from different parts of the world.

Yesterday, after a long hiatus, TravellingCamera headed out to watch a play. This one was titled "Patte Khul Gaye", produced by Felicity Theatre Group, written and directed by Mr. Rakesh Bedi. It was a foggy winter morning, and we had plans to visit Wildlife photography exhibition by Mr. Akash Das, so we had to get out of the house early-ish. And believe me, it was quite an effort to get out of the quilts and head out on a Saturday morning, when we could as easily have slept the day off.

The difference between a movie and a play becomes apparent as soon as you watch one play. And when it is a play that has 4 shows per day, you come to appreciate the difference even more. In a movie, you get many takes to do a scene, and then once recorded, the actors do not need to be out for every show, performing at the same level every time. This play had eight shows over this weekend, with the same star cast performing on the same decibel. And in between the shows, Mr Rakesh Bedi also took out time to meet the audience. They barely had half an hour break between the shows, so absolutely no time to rest.

I do have two peeves with the script. First, at many places it relies on cliched bucketing of society, that of men and women and the cliched perception of their roles in the society, for laughter. As a result, you hear dialogs like "Tum auraton ko...." many times. And all women characters, including the once-a-successful-model Shirin, are housewives and attend Kitty Parties. They are also portrayed as jealous, gossipy, and shopaholics. On the other hand all men are out having extramarital affairs, being henpecked at home, and earning bread and butter for family. And this is portrayed as a typical middle class home. In doing this, it just adds to the constant patriarchal narrative we desperately need to break out of. The token reference to homosexuality and section 377 too are more in the vein of "Dostana" than "Kapoor and Sons". That said, the fact that the person who is exposed to be homosexual remains unapologetic or unashamed about it was refreshing. Second, the narrative about hypocrisy in the middle class of our society sounds imposed. It can be simplified to just "hypocrisy in Indian society".

The play's narrative structure is designed to keep the audience engaged, with clever plot twists, witty dialogues, and a pace that oscillates between comedy and drama. As the characters navigate their way through the maze of deception and self-discovery, the audience is treated to a rollercoaster of emotions, from laughter to introspection.

After a long time, we visited National School of Drama in Delhi to watch ‘Club Desire’ play. These days Bharat Rang Mahotsav is happening at National School of Drama and 'Club Desire' show happened in Kamani auditorium. This Photo Journey shares some of the photographs from this play and more about it's actors, director, story & some interesting events from this show. This play is inspired by a french opera, Carmen. Desire Club is a powerful story of love, passion and art set in the world of night clubs, dance, music and poetry. Suhas Ahuja & Palomi Ghosh.Palomi Ghosh was one of the main actors in this play and she was brilliant. A great singer, performer and actor. A great combination of talent which made this play very special for me. This was completely new to me that an actor is singing live with such a brilliance.Ankur Ratan, Jaimini Pathak & Palomi GhoshJaimi Pathak was another main actor in this play and his name was 'Jayam'. Jayam is a sensitive and erudite poet who met Chahat (Palomi Ghosh) at Club Desire. She is a free spirited singer.Jaimini Pathak & Palomi GhoshThe spark fly ad they are drawn into an unusual and passionate relationship. Cracks begin to appear with the entry of DJ Abeer (Suhas Ahuja) who is a successful producer and performer of electric dance music.Club Desire is directed by Sunil Shanbag. There was live music in the play and Kaizad Gherda (Keyboard), Rohit Das (Lead Guitar), Vivek Date (Bass Guitar) and Amit Mhatre (Drums) were there on stage all the time.Sunil Shanbag is a Mumbai based Theatre director & producer. Over past 20 years, he has established a style that uses strong original texts, innovative staging techniques and powerful performances to make his theatre exciting & meaningful.Jayam and Chahat are sucked into a tragic maelstrom of emotions as they struggle to hold on to their relationship and their art.In above photograph, Director of National School of Drama presenting bouquet and a momento to Sunil Shanbag who directed this play. After enjoying this wonderful play at Kamani, we headed towards Theatre Bazar inside National School of Drama. This time, Theatre bazar was setup separately and next to the seating area. Every year, there used to be single place to sit, network and eat. With every year, Bharat Rang Mahotsav is improving and bringing more excitement amongst theatre lovers.

Last night, after few drinks we indulged into a discussion about known faces and debates went on n on without any conclusion. Everyone had own definition of known personalities. For some people, known faces simply mean folks who can be frequently seen in digital, tv or print media. For others, it' more about the traits they have and how many of the people follow those characteristics. Without focusing on any particular part, this Photo Journey is dedicated to people we can recall from past Photo Journeys...Very first photograph shows Mr. Saurabh Shukla and Mona Wasu, two known faces of bollywood. Saurabh Shukla has done lot of movies in last 25 years and he is still associated with Thatre. Above Photograph was shot in the beginning of this year, when we was showcasing his play RED HOT during 14th Bharat Rang Mahotsav at Kamani, Delhi. After watching this play, I became one of the big fan of his acting. Also I could appreciate the fact that live theatre needs lot of skills to perform for a longer period of time without any retake. Here comes Mr. Aditya Arya, who is a Photographer and people know him as Indian Photo Archivist. Initially I was following his work at various places and hardly knew him, but always impressed by his thoughts around Photography and how he can help in making better future through historical data lying in form of visuals/photographs. One year, back I got in touch with him and got opportunities to meet him various times. Then I was exposed to his expertise on photography, a different line of thought and amazingly organized working style. So far, I have not seen a workspace like his. A great mix of new technologies with historical equipments which compel you thinking about the way, he is managing a huge collection of equipments and archives. It's difficult to explain in words, as one has to visit his place to believe it. For knowing more about Aditya, check out - http://phototravelings.blogspot.com/2012/06/meeting-with-aditya-arya-at-india-photo.htmlHere is a photography Mr. Dinesh Khanna, a popular Indian Photographer and one of the face behind India's popular Photo Festival - Delhi Photo Festival. Above photograph was shot at one of his Food Photography workshop at APEX, Vasant Vihar, Delhi.Dinesh has his own special style of Photographing and a thought leader in this industry. Many of the buddying photographers follow him and he is also a kind of person, who is quite active in many of the communities. he along with Prashant Panjiar came up with an idea of 'Nazar ka Adda', where people share their work and present how they went about those photographs. Platform is open for all Photo Enthusiasts and presence is every other adda is increasing continuously. These days Dinesh is also asscoaited with APEX (Academy of Photography Excellence) as Director. His leadership has been quite helpful for APEX and students of the place.Although the Photo Journey started with Theatre Personalities, but suddenly three Photographer names come into my mind. Here is another Photographer, Mr. Nitin Yadav who is qute popular among Motorsport enthusiasts. He is popularly known as Indian Motorsports Photographer. A humble guy with passion about Photography, Travel and Motorsports. He is one of the inspiration for many of the beginners who are following Photography as hobby. For Nitin, Photograpy started as hobby and few years back he left his job and now full time into the Photography and enjoying it a lot. he owns a Gypsy and mostly use the same for various Motorsports projects across the country. This Photo Journey will continue with more faces from different walks of life...

I liked his answer for 'Tell us about your Best Photograph ever' - He said 'My Best Photograph is that, which will be clicked tomorrow' ... which means that always there is scope of improvements and all of us do the same... At times we feel very special about a photograph but after a few days we feel very normal about the same as we tend to improvise...Soha sincerely listening to great Indian Photographers on stage ...Prashant Panjiar sharing his opinion about Photography in India and little bit about devices offered by Canon !!!Mr. Alok Bhardwaj with Soha Ali Khan at Canon Photomarathon 2011 !!! They were interacting on stage about photography which was not so interesting :) (***My personal opinion)Suddenly Soha realized that all the Photographers are shooting her on stage and she should be standing in casual pose for a long time...Soha took all the glamor of this show and all I was really disappointed to see all Judges standing below stage and no one asking them for seating or anything... Being a Photographic event, I was expecting good respect for our known Photographers !!!Anyway, good to hear all great people from Photography Industry. Sorry I didn't find any sharable photograph of Akashendu Das and Subi Chaturvedi ... Will share more photographs from this event in few days... Keep watching this space for the same...

Continuing the journey with it's second part, today we are sharing some known bollywood faces. Although we come across many of other Bollywood faces in various malls of Delhi, but it was always too crowded to capture them in my Travelling-Camera. So here we share some of the fortunate ones...It was a Canon event for Photographer, where Soha Ali Khan was present with some of the eminent Indian Photographers - Akash Das, Dinesh Khanna & Prashant Panjiar. Long weekend this was special and this time, I attended Black Dog Easy Evening at Westin Hotel in Gurgaon. This event happened on Sunday night and was amazing evening with great range of drinks, performances and music with Melissa Totten. Let's check out this Photo Journey to know more about this event and feel the masti...First photograph above shows Melissa Totten who was main attraction of the eventGoing to Black Dog Easy Evening has always been fun and this time again it was rocking evening in Gurgaon. I was also looking forward to meet Melissa Totten, the Madonna impersonator performing at Westin, Gurgaon on Sunday (19 August). Crowd at Westin was amazing and everyone was looking forward to wonderful performances by Melissa Totten & her team. Folks of Delhi/NCR never miss their Black Dog Easy Evenings and as expected we observed a wave of people waiting at the hotel and thoroughly involved. Inside the venue people were served with some of the best liquors you can get and they were getting into the grove. People were having good time with their drinks & some chit-chat with frns around. Evening started at 7:00pm and by 9.00 pm the show started.Black Dog is organizing Easy Evenings in various Cities of India and Melissa Totten is here on India tour for these events. Plan is to travel to Goa, Gurgaon, Bhubaneswar, Kolkata, Vizag, Guwahati and Hyderabad for Black Dog Easy evenings...Bars were open throughout the evening except when Madonna was performing. Bars were open at 7:00pm and lasted till folks moved out the venue after having great time at Black Dog Easy Evening and Sizzling performances by Melissa Totten.By looking at the name of this event, I was expecting range of whiskies by Black Dog but they were taking care of various tastes. So wines, vodka etc were also available on bar. So everyone could enjoy their preferred drinks. Four Seasons wine was being served during the evening. Great range of snacks from Westin Hotel Kitchen doubled the joy of easy evening at Gurgaon...The sponsors Black Dog were so generous that they gave away couple of their finest whiskies to the audience selected from a lucky draw. We shall be sharing more photographs from the event in another post on Photo Journey, which will include winner's photographs as wellAfter 90 minutes performance, I got a quick chance to interact with Melissa on backstage. She shared some of the interesting facts about her passion and the way she thinks about Madonna. It happened in the early 80s. A singer named Madonna changed the way the world had seen pop music. As the 26-year-old sailed down a gondola in Venice crooning Like a Virgin, dressed in a parrot green lace shirt with a crucifix dangling around her neck, the world sang along, even as some organizations demanded a ban on the song contending that it promoted pre-marital sex. While the world judged Madonna for making a point with her music, 16-year-old Melissa Totten was busy buying 'Madonna-like clothes' from a neighbourhood market in Fairfax, Virginia . Melissa always loved buying whacky clothes, who felt that 'Madonna understood her'..More Easy Evenings by Black Dog are planned in other Indian cities. Madonna fans can look forward to her all-time hits like 'Confessions on a dance floor', 'Bedtime stories', 'Like a prayer', 'Hard candy', 'Madonna', 'True blue', 'Something to remember' and 'American life'.When Melissa Totten moved to Chicago, she decided to impersonate Madonna as part of a project in college. Gradually, she was approached for occasional look-alike work for celebrity-themed events and she decided to put on the trademark Madonna cone bra and give it a go. 'It felt like playing ‘dress up’ for beer money. I had no idea that there was a whole industry out there,' says Melissa Totten, whose impersonation began being called ‘Madonna sightings’ by newspapers and TV channels, even as the paparazzi chased her down the street. As all this happened, Madonna was busy filming A League of Her Own in Chicago.Melissa Totten’s admiration for Madonna not only existed because Madonna addressed desires and fantasies and questioned the hegemonic theories of existence, but also because she came across as an intriguing songstress. 'She allowed everything acerbic to work in her favour,' says Totten, who has two cover albums to her credit.During the event, I was not comfortable in shooting people although I could see people around me who wanted themselves to be photographed at Black Dog Easy Evening. When show started, some music was played by the DJs from London and then Madonna came on stage, we mean Melissa Totten. She started with one of the famous number from 'Hard Candy' the 'Candy Shop' and the audiences sitting there were thrilled to see her on stage. She was full of energy, well supported by her troop of dancers. She performed nonstop for 20 minutes on the go and the crowd went crazy and one of the gentlemen was extremely desperate to dance with her. People started dancing and the lovely lady joined the crowd and danced with them. She stepped down many times and enjoyed with the crowd present there. Melissa went on performing for some more famous tracks of Madonna’s and she made presence felt. Like people say, all good things have to come to an end. The show ended with her saying thanks to the crowd and the crowd thanked her with huge applause. She was fabulous on stage and during her performances, many times dresses were changed as the mode of the songs she performed. Apart from brilliant songsshe was a great performer and quite wonderful as catching up dance steps with her team at random moments...After some drinks at Black Dog Easy Evening, people were waiting for Madonna Performances. As part of Black Dog's easy evenings concert 'Madonna Forever', Melissa Totten created the right mood by involving the crowd. She came down from the stage with the dancers and prompted everyone to stand up and shake a leg with her. NCR people gave her great support and it was great environment all around. In fact her dancer's team many times came down and made people groove on Madonna Songs.Madonna has many avid fans amongst Indians and we are sure that our connoisseurs who are fascinated by her genre of music will enjoy the ' Madonna Forever Tour', Avishek Das, senior general manager (Marketing), United Spirits Limited, said in a press statement.During the evening, Melissa added desi flavour by mixing songs like 'Jai ho' and 'Mundyan to bachke rahin' with English songs and it had an electrifying impact. For that I would give more credits to DJs and Dancer's team of Melissa Totten. Dancers were amazing during Jai Ho and they tried to have some English Bhangra Steps during 'Mundyan to bachke rahin'.Here is one of the part area at Westin Hotel, Gurgaon. There was a huge lounge with two big halls, one was dedicated for Melissa Performances and other one had some seating arrangements to enjoy drinks and snacks. This is one of the two halls at Westin Hotel, Gurgaon, INDIA.The 90 minutes performance by Melissa Totten & her team required frequent costume change, but it was made sure that the stage was not left empty for even a minute and the disco-jockeys kept the heat bars high with good music. DJs from London were amazing and they were best when Desi songs were mixed with English beats. Many PR, Media people were all around to cover this event at Westin Hotel. Overall this event went very well and everyone had great fun on the weekendAbove photograph was shot in the lounge where some of the premier brands of Black Dog were being showcased. Since lighting on bottles was extremely bad, I thought of shooting some of the ornaments placed around the bottles. At times I think that all event management companies should have one art director who can think on behalf of Media, Photographers coming to the event :)The show was closed with a soulful performance on Madonna's song 'Like a prayer'.
