We happened to be in Kalka in Panchkula district of Haryana in August this year, and even though we were there for a family wedding, we managed to take time out for a casual stroll. Kalka isn't too big and we managed to cover almost whole of the main town. It was during this stroll that we stumbled upon this church. Known as the Baptist Church, it is located right next to the Railway Colony, about a kilometer from the Kalka Railway Station. It was barely 500 meters from the house of our relatives, where we were staying. Baptists branched out from Protestantism in the early 17th century. The first records of a Baptist church indicate that one existed in 1609 in Amsterdam, Dutch Republic, with English Separatist, John Smyth as its pastor. One interesting tidbit about this man John Smyth is that he rejected the practice of baptism of infants. He believed that only believing adults should be baptized because infants weren't capable of deciding their beliefs for themselves. This practice of only baptizing adults is known as believer's baptism. Currently there are more than 3 Million Baptist Protestants in India The Baptist looked like it would be beautiful from the inside. However though the main gate was open, the church itself was closed, so we couldn't really explore it. If you happen to be in Kalka and have some time on you hands, this can be one interesting place to explore.A Walk around the Baptist Church in Kalka, Panchkula, Haryana || An interesting place to explore on foot near Kalka Railway Station
