Lallgarh Palace in Bikaner is a 4-star heritage hotel that is being run by the Maharaja Ganga Singhji Trust since 1974. The Palace itself was built in 1896 for Maharaja Ganga Singh, the erstwhile Maharaja of Bikaner. Maharaja Ganga Singh is thought to be the most remarkable ruler of Bikaner who ascended the throne of Bikaner in 1887 at the age of 7 and ruled until 1943. It was he who is credited with transforming Bikaner from a feudal state to a progressive one. Since the old Junagarh wasn't equipped for most modern facilities, it was thought of as unsuitable for a modern prince to stay in. So the brand new Lallgarh Palace was built.

Worried about the upkeep and maintenance of the property, Maharaja Dr. Karni Singhji, the 23rd ruler of Bikaner thought that it would be best if the Lallgarh Palace was to be vested in a trust. Therefore, he created The Maharaja Ganga Singhji Trust in 1972 and transferred two wings of the palace into the Trust. In 1974 Trust started running hotel from those two wings.

As of now this magnificent hotel is set amid lush green lawns and you can drive around and explore the property even if you aren't staying here. There is also a museum that you can visit. We had reached the place on Dussehra and the museum was closed. But the guards and all employees we interacted with at the premises were very welcoming and courteous.
There are Suites and Deluxe Double rooms available starting from Rs 6.5K. The property looks good so spending a night at a heritage hotel might not be such a bad idea especially if you are in the mood to splurge a little.
