How long will it be before you uninstall Photoshop Camera? - A Prizma App + some fun effects, which are called Lenses

Today I installed Photoshop Camera app on my iPhone and let me start by sharing that it's very addictive. I spent time 1 hours on this app in continuation and now writing this blog in middle of the night to share my current state of mind about this application. At different moments I felt differently about the app and I was try to share why I believe that this may be just another app which provide some instant effects, although Adobe's brand and Adobe's real power of applying smart-tools may differentiate this app from others in longer terms. We can just make guesses and time will tell how this app does in longer run. Let's try to understand what all it offers today and who may be target users of this app?

At a first glance it looked very similar to Prisma , which was very popular in the beginning and today, I hardly see photographers sharing Prisma created images. I played a bit with portraits and there are 3 kinds of lenses which are suitable for Portraits - Portrait, Pop Art and Spectrum. Lens in Photoshop Camera can be thought as a template/preset you find in any other photo editing application but these lenses can be used while clicking photographs. I haven't tried clicking live photographs with these lenses and I don't think that will be lot different than clicking a photo with normal camera & later apply these effects. Above photograph shows 'Pop Art' version.

In each option you see on the screen, there are sub-options available. Above photograph is another Pop Art form of same photograph. There are 5 or 6 such options in Pop-Art section and I am sure future updates with keep increasing these presets or Lenses in Photoshop Camera.

There is a Lens for Food Photographs as well. I tried this Food Lens with multiple photograph but it was not as impressive as other lenses Photoshop camera provides or probably my sample set of Food Photographs may be little odd for it to work on.

The coolest among all lenses is 'Reverie' and this is more about creating short videos from your photographs. It swaps normal sky with some amazing sky effects with stars, clouds and moon. I spent most of my time playing with them and created few videos you can see in the bottom on this Blogpost.

Reverie' lens detects sky pretty well and embeds these magical skies very well in Photoshop Camera. The amazing part of all outputs through Photoshop Camera Lenses is the neatness. You can't see weird artefacts around edges which you usually see in normal editing, and that sucks lot of times in post-processing. All these effects are pretty quick and neat.

After applying any lens like 'Reverie' , you can adjust basic things in your photograph like - Brightness, Saturation, Contrast, Shadows, Highlights, Clarity, Vibrance, etc. When it comes to usage of this app, Photoshop Camera app is very intuitive. There is hardly any learning curve to start making good use of tools available in it.

All this sounds very interesting and it's lot of fun playing with these lenses of Photoshop Camera, but then I was wondering for how long I would do it? When it comes to serious photography, I like to present photographs in more natural way. This app can be used once in a while for fun but my choice of app for Photo Editing on Smartphones would remain Snapchat. It may sound unfair that I am comparing it with Snapseed, but from app called 'Adobe Photoshop Camera' app, I have very high expectations. For me, Lightroom Camera sounds more suitable that Photoshop Camera app. I will play more with this app and let's see how it goes.

As I said, I spent most of my time on 'Reverie' lens of Photoshop Camera app on my iPhone and created some of these short videos. and some of them look pretty cool. Do check out and share your inputs.

Few of 'Reverie' effects look natural while others are little more flashy and good for fun.

Wondering if the experience in live mode would be more encouraging as it's hard to practice that during lockdown. Let me spend more time clicking photographs with these lens in Photoshop Camera. So far, I have only tried with already clicked photographs - the results are awesome but wondering what more can I do in live mode. So stay tuned to know more about Live mode usage of Photoshop Camera Lenses by Adobe !
