Tracing Mumbai using an Artist's perspective

Few days back I came across an interesting series of photographs on Instagram. The series was about clicking some of the main places in Mumbai with their respective sketches. I contacted Yash, if we can publish this creative series on Travellingcamera and he was happy to do so. This Photo Journey shows some of the photographs from this series and more details about artists involved.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST), formerly Victoria Terminus (VT), is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and an historic railway station in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India which serves as the headquarters of the Central Railways. Designed by Frederick William Stevens with influences from Victorian Italianate Gothic Revival architecture and traditional Mughal buildings, the station was built in 1887 in the Bori Bunder area of Mumbai to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria. Yash has clicked all these photographs and his sister Yadna created these beautiful sketches. I have seen similar efforts in past but this project caught my attention. I don't have a reason why. Probably that's what a strong art-series does to you.

While searching about this series, I also came across another article by Buzzfeed and The Better India . In this series Yash and Yadna worked together & visited most of the main places to explore in Mumbai city -
  • Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus
  • Crawford Market
  • Flora Fountain
  • Rajabai Clock Tower
  • Taj Hotel
  • Gateway of India
  • The Asiatic Society of Mumbai
  • Horniman Circle
  • Bandra-Worli Sea Link

I came across this series when I was reading about Mumbai and was trying find some specific details. Since visuals are important for me, this series came out as a very special piece of information. I could relate to each photograph and these architectural master pieces.

I wish that both these artists continue their journey and create more such art-pieces from Mumbai and other important cities of India. As I think more, this series can be a very interesting book with collection of photographs from different cities of India and their main places to visit.
