Golden Tulip Hotel, Candolim, North Goa

I am very late in sharing this post about our stay at Golden Tulip Hotel in Goa. Recently, I started getting few queries about Goa and I realized that post on hotel review is still pending. We stayed in this property 3 years back, which is located in Candolim area of North Goa. Choosing a hotel was a task and especially when you get lot of lucrative options in off season :).In off season you get great deals of most of the hotels in Goa and getting booking in good hotels becomes very easy & cost effective. 5 star properties in south goa offer great deals and hotels in north goa have relatively less lucrative options. This was my first visit, so after consulting fellow bloggers and friends I planned to stay in North Goa and hence chose Golden Tulip hotel in Candolim. This was the time when I wrote about the trick online booking portals play by shaowing false inventory and stale pricing. And I am talking about MakeMyTripWhile booking a room in Goa, most of the hotels and resorts have different tariffs for rooms facing pool. And after reaching Goa, I realized that location of room doesn't really matter, because you are hardly at hotel. It's just a place to spend nights.Ours was a deluxe room at Golden Tulip and it was spacious with double bed, a sofa, chair and table. There was appropriate space to walk and a fridge & cupboards on other side.We stayed here for 5 days and we always got our room is good condition. Whenever we went out, room was properly setup by the staff. Breakfast was part of the deal, which you mostly get in almost all good hotels. Variety and quality of breakfast was good.Golden Tulip is not near to the beach, if that’s one of your main criteria. But it’s not too far and you may not want to go to same beach again n again. While booking, we think that a beach should be nearby, so that we can get up early in the morning and have a walk. If that’s the reason, Golden Tulip is at reasonable distance. But fact is that we never got up early in morning and want for a walk. For that you need to have a property which is just on the beach.Lemon Tree is comparatively closer to the Candolim beach. Fortune Select Regina is nearby Golden Tulip and looked like a good place. We didn’t go inside, but reception looked much better that Golden Tulip :). But that doesn’t really mean that rooms, service and food is better. Let’s not get into useless details. It remained in my mind, so shared here.Service at Golden Tulip was ok, which essentially means that it was neither fast nor pathetic. Restaurant on ground floor is running all the time, although they don’t offer everything in menu during off season. We had breakfast there everyday (because it was included in the deal :) ) and apart from that we had dinner once. Our overall experience was good but food was expensive as compared some of the good restaurants available in Candolim. There are few interesting restaurants across the road, near Lemon Tree. Most of these would be open at around 8/8:30pm.At Candolim beach, there is restaurant called Sunrise which serves awesome sea food and we loved their pron biryani. They also serve liquor. So you can stay at the beach a little late, have dinner at this restaurant and come to your hotel. We did it twice. This was only place open on Candolim beach during the month of August.Overall our stay was good at Golden Tulip and here are our ratings for the property

There is hardly any open area around the hotel. There is a swimming pool just outside the restaurant and little space to walk around the pool.
