Healing Waters and Holy Legends: A Visit to Vibhishan Teertham in Rameshwaram, Tamilnadu

Vibhishan Theertham is a sacred site located in Rameshwaram, Tamilnadu, that is steeped in mythology and history. According to Hindu legend, Vibhishan, the younger brother of Ravana, the demon king of Lanka, sought refuge with Lord Rama after he was banished from his kingdom for advising Ravana to return Sita to Lord Rama. It is said that Vibhishan performed penance at this site and Lord Rama granted him a boon, making him the ruler of Lanka.


The Vibhishan Theertham is a small pond located near the famous Ramanathaswamy Temple in Rameshwaram. It is believed that the water in the pond has healing properties and can cure various ailments. As such, it is a popular spot for pilgrims who come to take a dip in the holy waters.
