Beautiful yet Eerie Javari Temple in Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh || An ambience of mystery and mysticism surrounds this unusual temple

The Javari temple in Khajuraho is a part of the Eastern Group of Temples. It is 1.5km from the Western Group of Temples and about 250m from Brahma Temple. There is a narrow dust trail leading to the temple and your car drive right up to the temple complex. The Javari temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, and has a four-armed idol in its sanctum. The statue is, however, now broken and headless. The temple, though small, is considered to be one of the most beautiful temples in Khajuraho. The temple is built in Nirandhar style, which means that there is no ambulatory passage around the sanctum. It sits on a podium and has a portico, vestibule, mandapa, and a sanctum. The entrance has a makar toran that consists of four decorated loops. Both the interiors and exterior of the temple are beautifully adorned with sculptures. There are sculptures of the trinity and the navagraha and on the exterior wall there are two bands of sculptures of couples in various positions. The Javari temple, for some reason, was very difficult for me to write about. May be it is the headless idol or the fact that the temple is kind of secluded. But I realized that this is a perfect setting for a horror movie.
